The last commment in this entry, that Ronald Ryan carved his name in the wall of a cell in Hobart Gaol, must be viewed with some caution. The purported event is stated to have taken place in the same year the the gaol closed and a quite detained listing for Ronald Ryan states that in 1963 Ryan was between periods of incarceration at Melbourne's Pentridge Goal; however, the Ryan listing does not make any mention of him ever being in Hobart Goal.

I have added a link to the Archives Tasmania and a historic picture of the Gaol. I have also uploaded another picture taken at the same time from the same place, except it is a panorama and less focused on th gaol, but I'll put the link here for anyone who is interested.
