expansion request

In compliance with Scouting WikiProject policy on sub-council entities, I propose the expansion of this article into a reborn, larger and significantly better Minsi Trails Council article, with information added from Scouting in Pennsylvania#Minsi Trails Council. Local articles really need to be council level rather than by camp or lodge. Examples of good Council articles include Cradle of Liberty Council and Chester County Council, all others have been or are stubs, and we really are trying to avoid sub-council articles. Man Knocked to Ground by Lightning

A man escaped serious injury when he was struck by lightning during a violent thunderstorm Wednesday afternoon at Camp Minsi, a Boy Scout camp in Tobyhanna Township. The man, a Scoutmaster who was supervising a troop of Boy Scouts for summer camp activities, was taken to Pocono Medical Center as a precaution.

"He is a very lucky Scoutmaster," said Tom Harrington, chief executive of the Minsi Trails Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Harrington said the injured Scoutmaster does not live in Pennsylvania. He declined to release the man's name because his family has not yet been notified. No other Scouts or leaders were struck by lightning, but one Scout complained of ringing in his ears and was taken to PMC as a precaution, Harrington said.

The incident took place at about 2:30 p.m. near the onset of a powerful thunderstorm that blew through the Pocono Plateau with little warning. The Scoutmaster was injured when lightning struck a flagpole at a campsite about 12 feet from where he was standing. The electrical charge passed through the flagpole, then ran through the ground and struck the man, knocking him off his feet, according to Harrington.

"It melted his shoes," Harrington said.
The injured man never lost consciousness and walked under his own power to the camp's health lodge. Camp staff called an ambulance and the man was taken to PMC. Camp leaders sounded an alarm to signal all Scouts to assemble in the camp's mess hall for a head count, to be sure they were all unhurt.

"It seems our staff handled everything properly," said Harrington, who added this is the first time anyone has been struck by lightning at a Scout camp in the area since he came to the Minsi Trails Council over four years ago.

"It's a part of being in the outdoors," he said.

About 400 Scouts and adult troop leaders are visiting Camp Minsi for their annual summer camp this week, Harrington said.
