Wording

"Further, a new study shows that voluntary c-sections result in more baby deaths--much higher than previously believed--leaving vaginal birth the safest choice for women and their infants.4" The source needs to be fixed. I don't know how. And i find it kind of POV. Could a more neutral wording - particularly of the last sentence be found? 23 December 2006 23:02 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: Do not move. I proposed this move but I am persuaded by the comments of Ekem and Gccwang that this article should remain. The concept is covered extensively in medical and popular literature. My concern remains that some of the content in this article does not fit here, but still it is well established that this article by this name should exist. • Background "Maternal request" is always nominally part of elective caesarean delivery, but it is unfair and contrary to the sources presented to put most of the blame on mothers when the a range of external pressures to have a caesarean section come to mothers. "Caesarean delivery on maternal request" is undoubtedly a technical term used in a lot of literature but in my opinion, it is used to discuss the broader issue of why women get caesarean surgery when there is no medical reason (indication) for them to do so. Note that I am also nominating Elective caesarean section for deletion because the content in that article either is about caesarean sections generally or about the concept of unnecessary caesarean sections. "Elective surgeries" are "elective" in the sense that they are scheduled or planned, not "elective" in the sense of being optional, but that term is often used to describe the idea of "unnecessary caesarean delivery" because so many layman audiences discuss this issue and do not understand the medical meaning of the word "elective". • Keep name - Cesarean delivery on maternal request is a term well accepted in the medical literature, while unnecessary cesarean delivery would represent a WP invention; it certainly is not a medical term. The latter also implies a sort of judgment, and who is to say that all the other cesarean sections are really necessary? Ekem (talk) 21:13, 17 September 2014 (UTC)

• Oppose move I think the best policy is to stick to clinical terminology (example) even if it is ambiguous - the meaning can be clarified for laymen in the lead section of the article. The title of the article should correspond to how this entity is most commonly described in the literature. I would be more convinced to change the title if there is an alternative name for this entity that has gained some popularity in use. A second issue is that "Unnecessary caesarean delivery" is a potentially controversial title. To the mother requesting it, it may well be "necessary" in her eyes, and something that she has a right to give input on. --Gccwang (talk) 21:15, 17 September 2014 (UTC)

Spelling
