List of victims

edit

When I wrote this article back in May, I included a list of the victims who were killed or injured in this incident. Last week, the list was deleted since it allegedly goes against WP:MEMORIAL. I restored the list, and it was removed another two times by different editors. When I tried to remove similar lists from other articles (since I thought that consensus had been reached to not include such lists), I was told that a consensus was reached to include or remove such lists on an article-by-article basis.

I reread WP:MEMORIAL, and it seems that this point referred to the subjects of articles and NOT lists of victims in an article about the incident they were involved in. I am reproducing the relevant section below (bolding mine):

4. Memorials. Subjects of encyclopedia articles must satisfy Wikipedia's notability requirements. Wikipedia is not the place to memorialize deceased friends, relatives, acquaintances, or others who do not meet such requirements. (However, for the Wikipedia page for deceased Wikipedia editors, see WP:RIP).

I have therefore reverted the edits which removed this list from the article, since I believe they are a result of a misinterpretation of WP:MEMORIAL. --Xwejnusgozo (talk) 15:39, 10 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

As you have already been informed on the Talk:Columbine_High_School_massacre page, inclusion of such lists is defined by consensus at the local level. You have had three experienced editors explain that to you so far on that talk page alone. You have now had three editors here on the local page who have clearly stated their opinion on the matter, which is that this list is not to be included here. You are now edit warring against consensus, are at 3 reverts today, and trying to make a WP:POINT. I strongly suggest that you self revert, and wait to see if further discussion yields a change in consensus. ScrpIronIV 16:27, 10 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
I raised the point on this talk page so as to allow other editors to voice their opinions. Three editors deleting the list from the article based on what seems to be a misinterpretation of WP:MEMORIAL is hardly a consensus; for that to be reached more people need to state what they think about the issue. The list of victims is included in multiple references so that should not be an issue. In my opinion, the removal of the list is an example of Wikipedia:Content removal.
When I removed similar lists from other articles, I was told to revert my edits. When I re-added the list to this article, I'm being told to revert my edits. So it seems quite clear that consistency is regarded as irrelevant here. So go ahead and revert any of my edits, I'm not going to waste my time in pointless edit wars and petty disputes. It doesn't belong. Lists of non-notable people are non-notable and the inclusion of them serves only as a memorial. It does not aid reader understanding of the subject to list their names. - Ahunt (talk) 16:54, 10 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
OK, if so then go ahead and delete it. I won't revert anything this time. I still cannot understand why it's OK to list victims of a school shooting but not the victims of this incident, but what do I know? All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others. --Xwejnusgozo (talk) 17:18, 10 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
That comes under WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS and needs cleaning up, too. I am sure many articles need fixing, but here, today, we are just dealing with this one. - Ahunt (talk) 22:15, 10 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
There is nothing notable about the name, rank and residence of the dead, none of which increase the readers' understanding of the event. WWGB (talk) 04:28, 11 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
