There isn't anything too radical on this page; if anything its too conservative. I've held off of writting anything major until I find sources.Gabriel Spiro 01:07, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

It did. Compare his pre-1998 associations with his post-1998 ones and the shift is enormous. Unless you are saying that SGM is a part of the shepherding and restorationist movements, which it was during the Tomczak years? Anyway... what I meant was: are you able to add in detail on Mahaney's recent activities? "Mahaney served as a co-leader (with his mentor Larry Tomczak) of that church for 18 years, before the two parted ways, never to be seen on the same platform again." Is there a source to conclude that they were never to be seen on the same platform again? Neither man is dead, so even if they haven't appeared together yet, we don't know that there won't be some context in the future where they will be together. I recommend this being sourced our removed.

I think the following should be removed:

Tomczak himself has described the split as "an unbelievable nightmare" during which his family were "were threatened in various ways if we did not cooperate with [SGM]... A letter was circulated in an attempt to discredit me and to distort the events surrounding my departure"[3]. No formal public statement has ever been made by Mahaney on this situation.

1. he left from SGM not CJ and it is included in the SGM page.

2. It has a negative point of view.

Also, is there a source for this "No formal public statement has ever been made by Mahaney on this situation." Everyone who I spoke who was affiliated at the time says that the letter was written by Larry himself and that there was a statement given at the time.

If we keep the paragraph in, which I think should be deleted, it should at least be sourced.

What does Larry Tomczaks claim have to do with the life of CJ Mahaney? I think it is irresponsible to certain parties to continually seek to discredit Sovereign Grace and CJ Mahaney. These individuals seem to have an axe to grind and so are looking to do it on Wikipedia when there is no need to. As others have pointed out, Tomczak was one of Mahaney's mentors. Why is reporting history and some of the more grey and questionable actions of Soverereign Grace Ministries always called dicrediting? If the questionable acts discredit then they should speak for themselves. Is it discrediting or giving a balanced account of the group's history? Most of what is written there has citations. I might agree that the "No formal" statement should be removed. As indicated, Larry Tomczak mentored Mahaney and the discussion and separation belong IMO in this entry for Mahaney. Geocacher301 (talk) 04:01, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

Mahaney Only Meets the Notability Guidelines Respecting His Alleged Involvement/References to Him in Civil Suits/Criminal Trials Respecting Child Sexual Abuse

This bias in this article is off-the-wall and many of its statements are irrelevant. Who cares if Mahaney "cared more about sports than God." Mahaney is not a major religious leader in that he's known by people outside a relatively small religious circle. The sources provided don't meet Wikipedia's guidelines and therefore call into question whether Mahaney is notable enough to be on Wikipedia.

On the other hand, Mahaney now has a growing claim to fame revolving around allegations that he was extensively involved/is still involved in controversial child sex abuse issues.He has been featured in mainstream news sources (as opposed to religious media or blogs) such as the Washington Post and Huffington Post respecting a large class action suit, and concluded or potential criminal trials, in which people are alleging that he was/is deeply involved in a conspiracy to cover up child sexual abuse at his former Church. He has also been accused of breaking the law by not reporting child abuse, per the law in Maryland.

However, there's no point in amending the article as Mahaney's friends and family will simply change it back to its current state. 71.191.244.247 (talk) 13:50, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
