Samuel Lewis edit

I have removed the following statement from the article: "Coffin is the great-grandfather of actor, Samuel Lewis." I have not been able to verify this. Do you have a citation to a WP:Reliable source to WP:VERIFY this? -- Ssilvers (talk) 17:01, 22 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi there, my name is Gael Hayden Guthrie Lewis and I am Charles Hayden Coffin's grandson and the father of Samuel Lewis who posted the edit that you have removed.

Charles Hayden Coffin (known as Charlie to his friends) had a mistress, Maud Ella Cohn, (born 17 Feb 1877 died 1966) who preferred to be known as Mamie, and who adopted the name “Mrs Christie” when she became pregnant. Charlie & Mamie had two children : Crystal Hayden “Christie”, born 12 Sept 1914 Blomfield Court, Hammersmith, died 2 April 1998 and Errol Blanchard Christie, born about 1916.

Crystal Hayden Christie had two sons, one of whom, Gael Hayden Guthrie Lewis, has two daughters and two sons, one of whom is the actor Samuel Lewis. Almost by definition, illegitimate heritage is difficult to prove, as fathers of illegitimates were not named on birth certificates until very recently, but the Christie/Lewis family has a large number of personal possessions of Charles Hayden Coffin, including the bible he was given by his father, Charles Henry Coffin, who wrote on it, “with love from your father”, and which Charles Hayden Coffin gave to his daughter Crystal, writing on it “ from your father Charles Hayden Coffin”. We also have correspondence between Crystal Christie and her lawyers concerning her parentage.

I am going to the Publi Record ofice next week to get a copy of Hayden Coffin's will - will that, and a scan of the bible page mentioned earlier, be sufficient proof for you ?

Hello, Mr. Lewis. Thanks for writing. I will leave some helpful links for newcomers on your user page. With respect to this article, please read Wikipedia's policy on verifying factual assertions. Also see Wikipedia:About. Coffin's will, by itself, may be of interest and may show facts that will be of interest in this article. With respect to Samuel Lewis, I doubt that a scan of the Will and the bible page will give us enough verified information to tie all this together. Moreover, I don't think that, even if you can prove that he is the great-grandson of Coffin, that we should mention Samuel Lewis [1] in this article, as he does not appear to meet the requirements of this guideline: WP:ENT. Update edit

Kurt Ganzl blogged about Mamie Christie and her two children with Coffin, Crystal and Errol, so I have now added information about them to the article. If anyone knows of any of the descendants that have Wikipedia articles, let's link them. -- Ssilvers (talk) 00:49, 17 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Who Sings of England edit

For posterity, the original wax disk master recording of 'Who Sings of England' is still held by his family and I have an MP3 copy from the same source. No idea if this can be uploaded to Wiki! -- Colin aka Henri Merton 08:53, 10 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

A recording can be uploaded as an .OGG file if it is public domain or if the owners license it under an appropriate Creative Commons license. -- Ssilvers (talk) 04:15, 11 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
