This page contains a copyrighted image from Google Earth (Image:C'etait un Rendez-Vous map.png) which has been put up for deletion (screenshots of Google Maps/Google Earth aren't fair use). A new image will be needed. Zetawoof^(ζ) 09:44, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

Route diagram needed

So, apparently images from Google Maps / Google Earth are not allowed on Wikipedia because of copyright restrictions. However, I don't know the actual route taken so it's difficult to re-create using a map that is not copyrighted.

I would be willing to find a 1970's-era street map that is not copyrighted and trace the route for the diagram, if someone can point me in the right direction of the original copyrighted Google Maps image. If you can add that link here to the talk page, it would be great, and I will find the image and re-create it using an uncopyrighted map. Thanks. 24.18.35.120 05:01, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

Audio overdub?

It may well be a Merc that the footage was shot from, and the director's comments in the "making of" film would seem to confirm this, but that is definitely NOT a Merc saloon that you are hearing. For a start it is almost entirely unsilenced, yet it isn't blowing in a way that suggests his exhaust has been removed, in fact it sounds in excellent tune. Secondly, the yowl near the top of the rev range, and the wail on overrun suggest a V12, not the V8 that the Merc would have been fitted with. Thirdly, you can quite distinctly hear him double declutching on the down-shifts, and occasionally on an upshift (which the author on the main page has mistaken for missed gears), this is almost positively a fingerprint of a gearbox full of straight-cut cogs, which in turn screams "racing car". I would love to know what it is that he used for the overdub, and big kudos for getting the match so good. Pyrope 17:33, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

I distinctly remember reading somewhere that the audio is overdubbed using the Ferrari (275GTB) that it was suggested the actual car was, so as to best preserve that rumour. Josh.Sinyor 19:55, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

Translation of title

"It was an appointment" is so banal that it should be deleted. And wrong - "it was" would be 'il etait' If a translation is needed, and it isn't, it should be "There was a rendezvous" as RZV is well understood in English and has more of the romantic, dramatic meaning than 'appointment' which smacks of going to the dentist - Blah! If you must - 'date' or 'tryst' - I like 'tryst'!

I think the closest transliteration would be "It's a date". Pyrope 11:34, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

Can't agree with Pyrope about c'était versus il était. I don't think you could ever translate it as "there was". "That was" perhaps.

Precisely because rendez-vous is understood in English and has a variety of connotations which it doesn't have in French, I think it should be avoided. So, it seems to me that, being pretty literal and neutral, you could reasonably translate it as "It was a date" or "That was a date". "I had a date" or "He had a date" also seem reasonable to me, though less literal.

I've changed it to "It was a date" and removed any talk of it being a 'direct translation' (whatever that means). ☸ Moilleadóir ☎ 11:15, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Removal of speed analysis

Unfortunately the link to one of the analyses has a big error. They've added a kilometer by mistake, and where they've added it of course they get a huge speed. The other problem with some of the other speed analysis I have seen is, they calculate AVERAGE speeds. For example, the measure the distance of Champs Elysee and record the time it takes to get from one end to the other. This is an average speed. The website below, uses a time distance plot, a more accurate physics method of determining speed. This shows a top speed of 135 mph

SPEED
