Byzar was one of the most important Illbient bands of the late 90's. DJ Spooky has remixed Byzar on the Necropolis CD and was in an early version of the band as a bass player. In it's height, guitarist Marc Ribot would join them on stage. They were signed to Asphodel Records and have a huge following of fans to this day.

They also played at many important festivals along with the Chemical Brothers and Prodigy and the video for their song Phylyx was the most played on MTV's Amp.
