Leaf life span (LLS) edit

If this helps: I was looking at this paper and saw that the leaf life span for the Buxus sempervirens, Buxaceae is 488 ± 28.6 (days). States: "This study was conducted in Mediterranean old-fields over a 4-yr period on 42 species differing in successional status."

Etymology of name? edit

Is it called 'box' because it's good wood for cabinetry? Or, because as a topiary it's often cut into a box shape? Or is the english name 'box' simply derived from latin Buxus? Thanks98.244.77.202 (talk) 17:40, 21 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

"The common name of boxwood is in reference to the prior use of the wood to make carved decorative boxes. Another etymology is that boxwood describes the quadrangular (square box cross section) stems of young plants." from https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/all/buxus-microphylla-var-japonica-borderline/ 107.77.204.72 (talk) 03:20, 4 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Plagues affecting buxus edit

The article lacks a reference to plagues affecting buxus: blight and caterpillars: https://www.gardenworld.co.uk/case-study/2017/how-to-keep-buxus-healthy/AnnaBruta (talk) 18:24, 13 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

To add to article edit

To add to this article: a photo (or photos) of the wood, and/or something made out of the wood. 173.88.246.138 (talk) 10:46, 19 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
