The Gatehouse edit

Does the gatehouse still exist where the gateman courageously faced down the rioters during the Pentrich Rising? It ought to be a listed building. Chevin 07:02, 25 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

It's still visible on Google streetview in a photo dated April 2016, so appears to have survived the demolition of most of the rest of the site Gilgamesh4 (talk) 15:06, 13 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Butterley Bricks edit

I heard on BBC1 this morning that the "brickworks in Derbyshire" was reopened to provide replacement bricks for vthe refurbished St. Pancras station. Presumably this\ would be Butterley. Can anyone confirm this? Chevin 07:02, 25 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

NPOV Tag edit

This page has had an NPOV tag since July 2015. I think this tag should be removed.

The tag was added for good reason, although I think the problem might have been better described as WP:COI rather than WP:NPOV. In any event, I think that the reverts made at the time, and some more minor changes later, have removed the material that should have been removed. The page seems to be back in an earlier state, and on my reading, it doesn't really have NPOV issues. That's not to say it couldn't be improved.

For that reason, I am going to remove the tag.

Pentrich Uprising edit

I think the line "The intention of the rebels was to kill the three senior managers" is incorrect and should be removed. The rebels attacked at night (approx. 3am) expecting that there would be very few people around, maybe a night watchman or 2, their sole aim was to get the weapons that they needed to attack Nottingham the next day. A government spy, William Oliver acting as an agent provocateur, concocted the plan and then informed the company, the company signed up their workers to act as special constables for the night, (maybe as many as 200). The mainly unarmed rebels were out numbered and out armed so left empty handed. Mansfield Blade (talk) 09:27, 26 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Where? edit

The article starts "This area of Derbyshire had been known for ... " Where is that, please? What area of Derbyshire? The intro doesn't tell us. I don't like putting those tags "Where?" in the face of the article. Can someone who knows, please edit. Afterbrunel (talk) 14:51, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
