Talk:Butterfly (lighting)

Description? edit

This article doesn't tell me what a butterfly is. If it is a methodology, what is the method? If it is a rig of things, or a thing, or a fabric, this needs to be explained. Bards 02:41, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • Also, it mentions a large area needed to be covered, "thus, Butterflies." This makes no sense, at least to me. Hans404 (talk) 07:05, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Butterfly lighting edit

In still photography, "butterfly" lighting (also known as "paramount" or "glamour" lighting) is simply a set up where the key light is above and in front of the subject, generally well lighting the face, but casting a distinctive shadow below the nose. Most sources claim the name originates from the shape of this shadow under the nose. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Eoonline (talkcontribs) 15:07, 6 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Beauty v butterfly edit

By the way, it's worth noting that "beauty lighting" is effectively a butterfly set up where the key light is very large and generates soft light. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Eoonline (talkcontribs) 15:09, 6 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
