could have been

I remember a couple years back, the section was a lot more informative. Plus this section is full of errors. There is very little history. And the whole section about the "2x" is a personal opinion. There have been many customers pleased with the 2X system. Plus, Burton is upgrading to a single slider system next season. It should also be noted that Burton has control over channel islands surfboards also. This section should be changed in the near future.

Citation for Burton as market leader

That reference also states that they do not disclose financials. Let's leave off making uninformed earnings guesstimates for Burton without a solid reference which we probably aren't going to get since it is a private company. They could be losing money. Spectrum drops Chill

Burton founded Spectrum for disadvantaged youth. They were eligible for "Chill" which gave them discounts etc. Recently, Spectrum dropped Burton/Chill because of offensive boards which have pictures from Playboy and self-mutilation images. Hard to see where this goes or if it goes anyplace. It was founded by Burton which makes it noteworthy. Student7 (talk) 23:34, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

Product specifics

One of the ironies of Wikipedia is that you can use brand names that have articles but you can't use brand names that don't. More to the point, you can't use Wikipedia to get publicity if you need it, you can if you don't need it. So I can mention "McDonald's" in an article - everyone knows them already - but I can't mention "Joe's Hamburgers" 'cause no one has heard of them - they need the publicity! Yeah, that was Revelation. Common misconception.

Also I would argue that it was a two-hole system. The slider system is a 4-hole system with two-sliders.

History

i think their should be some sorta history of burton about Jake making snowboards in his living room on the east coast when the company was first starting out.

This is a shitty entry for Burton.

I agree, there should deffinetly be more about the evolution of the snowboard, Jake's contribution to it, and how he started testing out the original burton snowboards/snurfs at Stowe, VT. Snowboarding has made huge strides since then, and burton has had a huge part in the history of it. They've got to add something about the Burton Vapor, it's gonna change snowboarding completely. Combine the strength and light-wieght of the Vapor, with the design and size of the Rossignol Mini, and you've got the future of snowboards 10 or 20 years from now. I was however, was ill-informed about Burton buying Forum...never saw that coming. That is a pretty serious mile-stone in snowboard history, how fuack asshold... and this will most deffinetly have some kind of effect on sport in the future. Although this is not a bad article about The Burton Snowboard company, it is most deffinetly lacking in some aspects. How about some info about snowboard trends, culture, and future predictions. Snowboarding is not just a sport, it's a life-style. Burton's contribution to this life-style is much more deserving of a bigger article. If you guys at Wikipedia need any help or suggestions, just let me know.

I believe REV/Revelation Snowboards of British Columbia pioneered the 2-hole slider binding mount system sometime around '92-94. I think Forum later acquired it.

There should be mention of the Burton snowboarding videos from the late 80's into the early 90's that helped fuel the snowboard revolution. Smooth Groove, Chill, Board with the World, Scream of Consciousness, etc.

I modified the Forum sliders paragraph to note that the UnInc 2X does not user sliders, and the slider is in the baseplate, until 2007 lineup where all 2X baseplates have fixed holes now. I was thinking about further modifying it, because I dont think that the Forum system and the 2X system have any overlapping similarities...I also beleive that the 2X system was around before Burton bought Forum... -cmsJustin

40-70% of what?

The article currently claims that Burton has 40-70% of "the winter sports industry", depending on category. I find that extremely implausible - given that they don't make skis and don't operate ski-resorts. I suspect this is taken out of some context that defines a more narrow scope. The original article had almost nothing footnoted like most additions nowdays for that matter. The percentage was supposed to be limited to snowboards I believe. Feel free to delete it!Student7 (talk) 23:26, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
