In editing this, I removed the following sentance.
- Prior to that date, porcelain poker chips brought south by Chinese merchants had been a commonly used currency.
If someone can substantiate this, it ought to go in the article Myanma kyat, since this deals with the first currency of Burma.

- I used to work for the American Numismatic Association museum, we had a collection of them. And no, the kyat is the modern currency, so it would go here, where I put it. Chris 04:57, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

I'm assuming that if notes of this currency weren't issued until 1897 and coins weren't issued until much later that the Burmese rupee was not introduced in 1852. --Aamsse talk to me 23:23, 8 February 2012 (UTC)
