What is a Malt Shake (NZ usage?) Is it the same as a Milk Shake (USA/Canadian usage?) 64.214.196.86 (talk) 13:48, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

In US usage a "malt" and a "shake" are properly two different but similar things. The difference is whether "malt powder" is added, changing the shake into a thicker and creamier "malt". "Malt powder" in this case has nothing to do with beer making, it is effectively the powder used to make malted milk balls. I would expect (but don't know) that a NZ malt shake would be similar to a proper US "malt".

(It is unfortunately common these days for US chain food stores to use the terms malt and shake interchangably when what they are actually selling is a shake or an approximation thereof.) Loren.wilton (talk) 20:37, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

A malt shake is a milk shake but made with malt in it. Not many places in NZ make shakes with malt so burgerfuel does this to differentiate their shakes. They most definitely have a different taste to a standard milk-shake. I personally prefer a standard milk-shake as the malt taste can take from the other flavours.

Freedom of Panorama photo
