Hello! I'll be reviewing this article, it may take up to a week. --Cerebellum (talk) 15:24, 3 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Alrighty I've left comments below, I enjoyed the article! I'll place on hold for now. --Cerebellum (talk) 13:51, 5 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Criteria edit

  • Prose: A few issues, I've left comments below.
  • References: Outstanding! Great use of high-quality, academic sources.
  • Broadness: I think you need to explain the history of BPH.
  • Neutral: Yes.
  • Stable: Yes.
  • Illustrated: No illustrations, I think that's fine.

Comments edit

  • Lead: Bulletproof hosting (BPH) is technical infrastructure service provided by a web hosting provider I think saying "technical infrastructure service" when you mean "web hosting service" is confusing. I recommend changing this sentence to something like Bulletproof hosting (BPH) is a type of web hosting that is that is resilient....
  • Lead: and the local laws of the incorporated jurisdiction What does "incorporated jurisdiction" mean here? I don't understand.
  • Prose: botnet C&C servers C&C is not a common abbreviation, I would replace with command and control servers or botnet masters.
  • Links: You link some terms that I don't think need to be linked, such as "materials (data)", "network", "jurisdiction", "internet infrastructure", "computer programs".
  • Abbreviations: I would spell out AS at the first occurrence.
  • Coverage: I think you need a "history" section at the beginning of the article explaining when BPH first appeared, like you have for fast flux.
  • Refs: According to a report Please put a ref at the end of this sentence so we know what report you mean.
  • Prose: the clients get migrated This is passive voice, it's better to rephrase to something like the providers migrate their clients.
  • Prose: You use the word "thus" three times in the "web hosting reseller" section, you should probably only use it once or twice.
  • Difficulties: Customary modes of contact for BPH providers include ICQ, Skype, and XMPP (or Jabber). This doesn't fit with the theme of the "difficulties" section, I recommend moving it to elsewhere in the article. Or you could make a new "Overview" section where this would fit nicely.
  • Admissible abuses: (being more permissive) more permissive than what?
  • Prose: on malicious ASNs What is an ASN? --Cerebellum (talk) 13:51, 5 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Cerebellum: Hi, thanks for reviewing this article.
  1. Bulletproof hosters—in most cases—also provide DNS evasion techniques like fast fluxing, dedicated uplink ports, secure bootups, PXE setups, etc. This, as a whole, is a technical infrastructure provided by a specific web hosting provider. A bulletproof hoster also serves normal customers. So, this collection of services is what I meant by "technical infrastructure".
  2. These providers usually incorporate (base their business) in the jurisdiction (countries) where local laws are much permissive. So, if they incorporate in Belize for example, they don't listen to law enforcement requests from the US (like abuse reports from the FBI) or any other country for that matter (although they physically locate and announce their IP from a Dutch data center). They're only obligated to listen to Belize's court—which is a very expensive and tiresome process to begin with.
  3. Done.
  4. Removed those links.
  5. Expanded as "autonomous system" in the first occurrence in the body.
  6. History subsection added.
  7. Added inline page.
  8. Done.
  9. Done.
  10. Copy edited to fit in.
  11. More permissive than other jurisdictions with regards to discarding abuse reports and such. But, "popular destination" also fits, since the majority of the providers are located in Russia.
  12. ASN - Autonomous System Number, the unique identifier for the AS. Autonomous system (Internet)#Assignment.
