Chiellini pulling Saka to the ground by his shirt edit

This incident in the UEFA Euro 2020 Final is being quite widely covered by the press and in social media: [1], [2], [3]. It was truly shocking. Should it be mentioned? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 11:24, 12 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

That seems like just typical press coverage overload after any major sporting event (plus the Express is listed as an unreliable source, and devoting any part of the article seems WP:UNDUE considering it was ultimately inconsequential (Chiellini received a yellow card, Saka wasn't hurt, nothing came of the resulting free-kick). If 6 months from now, reliable sources are still covering the foul as they do for the Zidane headbutt, then sure. But I think we want to avoid falling in the WP:RECENCY trap. Ytoyoda (talk) 11:55, 12 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yes, the Express is not a reliable source. But I can assure you that incident really did occur and was seen by an estimated 30.95 million people (in the UK alone)? Maybe you are right. But Italian captain Chiellini being sent off with a red card, even in injury time, would certainly not have been "inconsequential", would it? Martinevans123 (talk) 12:14, 12 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
There are many things that happen (like hard fouls) and don't happen (like red cards for fouls that look bad). Very few of them are worth mentioning in an article. I suggest giving this incident a few months to avoid WP:RECENTISM. Ytoyoda (talk) 04:53, 13 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Well OK, but I suspect that picture and the headline "Giorgio Chiellini gives Euro 2020 final his villainous masterpiece with Bukayo Saka foul" in The Daily Telegraph will still be there in a few months. Martinevans123 (talk) 07:05, 13 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
It wasn't "truly shocking" - it was a professional foul. There is no reason to mention every time a player is fouled. Anyway, you've got to love Chiellini.... Ghmyrtle (talk) 12:50, 12 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yes, we used to have professional fouls, didn't we. I was still truly shocked. And, gotta be loving Chiellini is now subject to a non-legally-binding trade agreement. Martinevans123 (talk) 12:58, 12 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Proposed Amendment edit

In the England vs Denmark semifinal, Saka made a crucial forward run which (for all intents and purposes) led to the equalising goal for England in the 38th minute. Saka’s shot on goal would deflect off a Danish player’s foot — mere feet away from being a goal in its own right. 2001:8003:A0FF:3D01:A0D3:50A6:543A:7D8 (talk) 11:14, 13 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Do you have any sources? Even articles on individual matches tend to credit only the goal scorer. Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 11:17, 13 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
The moment in question is mentioned in this WaPo article [1]. It is also mentioned, but to lesser detail, in [2], and [3]. And of course there are the highlight reels, but I don't know if they are suitable [4] (timestamp 3:20 - 3:40). --Edmo496 (talk) 11:46, 13 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for those, although for me in UK the last one produces Video unavailable. The uploader has not made this video available in your country, probably for copyright reasons. Personally, I would not object to adding a brief clause or sentence about his assist. To me it's at least as notable as him being violently pulled to the floor by Chiellini in the final (see above). But other editors may have other views. Martinevans123 (talk) 12:04, 13 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
We should stick to official stats like these. Is that the one assist with which he is credited? Ghmyrtle (talk) 12:28, 13 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
At least he recovered four balls? I'm surprised they ever wear out. Martinevans123 (talk) 12:49, 13 July 2021 (UTC) Reply
Obviously, an assist on an own goal isn't an actual stat, but I think it's worth mentioning that (1) he started in a Euro semifinal, and (2) His pass was redirected into goal. So here's my proposed edit:
Saka started the semi-final match against Denmark, becoming the youngest English player to start a major tournament semi-final or final, at 19 years and 305 days old.[5] His pass in the 39th minute was redirected for an own goal by Danish defender Simon Kjær, putting the score level at 1-1. England went on to win 2-1 in extra time.[6]
That should be fine, right? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ytoyoda (talkcontribs) 15:29, 13 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Um, are you the same editor who opened this thread? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 15:44, 13 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
I am not. I thought the OP had a good proposal, but the proposed edit had several issues. Ytoyoda (talk) 21:03, 13 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your clarification. I have no objections to that being added, but I'd prefer to wait for any other editor(s) to offer a view. Martinevans123 (talk) 21:07, 13 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Saka's religion edit

Worth a mention, no? Since he mentions it's such a large part of his life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f73wGkOihcg — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.27.112.2 (talk) 08:39, 13 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Substandard phraseology edit

The setback at the end of the first section: “Saka is known for his attacking incisiveness and creativity, he is often considered one of the best young football players in the world.” isn’t phrased very well. I suggest it be altered to something like:

“Saka, known for his attacking incisiveness and creativity, is often considered one of the best young football players in the world.”

if not, then maybe just make them 2 sentences.

“Saka is known for his attacking incisiveness and creativity. He is often considered one of the best young football players in the world.” Mrchasi (talk) 19:31, 12 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Addition to Personal Life section:

Saka identifies as a Christian; he says that religion is a big part of his life and that he is a "strong believer in God".

In 'Career' it is stated that Saka became the first player born in the 21st century to play in the Premier League, however this is not the case. He became the first player born in 2001 to do so, as stated in the source. Please update this factual error. 2A00:23C8:5092:8201:61CF:6871:C66A:4305 (talk) 08:49, 7 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Saka is one of the best right wingers in the world edit

Bukayo Saka is one of the finest right wingers in the world right now, arguably the best. He should be rising above the 'young player' category and be mentioned amongst the best in the world. Here are a few links from well known sites that acknowledge Saka's place amongst the finest in the world.

think someone should add a section about his playing style, seeing as it is pretty unique to him, and a very interesting part of him as a player. 75.161.80.199 (talk) 19:20, 3 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
