image identification edit

User:Wwcsig argues that the old image is a thrush, not a pipit. Behavior and habitat at the time the picture was taken were consistent with pipit, but none of this is visible in the image itself (and this wouldn't be the first time I have misidentified a bird), so I have removed it for an arguably more definitive version found at the commons. I was about to begin removing all trace of the picture, but then noticed that many other wikis have picked up the image for use as a pipit as well. It's hard to say how many better eye-balls than I have pondered the picture, but can all those people be wrong? (Of course they can!) So unless someone objects, the aforementioned delete will commence in a week, unless someone starts it going first (with no argument from me). mdf 12:32, 21 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

You can relax. Wwcsig is wrong - this is a pipit. SP-KP 15:51, 21 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Good call Mdf; this is definitely a Buff-bellied Pipit! I think the confusion may have arisen because this is a fresh immature rather than breeding plumaged bird (like the one now illustrating the article). MeegsC | Talk 16:16, 21 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
