Yo, EvKnight13! Is it you who removed Liza Minelli and Rex Allen Jr from the celeb list? If so, why? I knew these kids; they were at Buckley, the old Woodman campus, in about 1956 or '57. Maybe '58 too, not sure......Dan

Removal

I am a student now, and neither I nore anyone else has been able to find any records of these people having attended the school. I have asked the head of school and any of the older teachers who would know, but no one has been able to corroborate. Dlayiga 01:23, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I noted your page, and rather thought that the process you described was indeed what happened. Doesn't surprise me that no one around now remembers them. However, I was there, knew and liked those kids. Also there at the time were Clark Gable's kids, Glenn Ford's son Peter who was also a friend, Jeff and Laura Green whose mother appeared frequently on "Bonanza" - and I suppose I'm the only one around who remembers them. Try asking Bruce Denny; he's in the alumni association and was there then. Meredith MacRae would too, were she still alive. Anyway, my father, Ed Strickland, was a teacher and business manager during the mid to late 50's, my mother, Jane Strickland, taught reading readiness for a year or so, and I, Dan Strickland, was a student. If you can confirm any of that, it should bolster my case, but in any event I think you're going a bit against the spirit of a wiki. After all, how many of your contacts remember Mrs. Buckley? History

It'd be nice if someone could remember/look up some of the history of the school. Mrs. Buckley started it in 1933 (at age 33), where? When I was a kid in the Buckley School I always heard that the Doheney branch was the original school; is that true? Followed by Hayvenhurst, then Woodman. Anyone know the history of those locations? And what about headmasters preceding the ones listed in the main article? Of course, the headmaster was Mrs. Buckley, but there were principals at each site. For most of the time I was at Woodman, the principal was Mr. Butler, followed by - Mr. Young? Was that his name? And I think Carol Proffit was principal at Hayvenhurst at that time. I've got some old Buckley Beagles around, in boxes in my garage, well-buried and guarded by black widows, so if someone else were knowledgable about these things it'd be nice. --Dan 22:28, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

From the 2004-2005 Annual Report (google for "buckley school" doheny to find this):

• 1932-33 Primary school campus opens on Doheny Drive in Beverly Hills.
• 1946 Second primary school campus opens on Hayvenhurst Avenue in Encino.
• 1951 Elementary school and Upper Division campus opens on Woodman Avenue in what is now considered Sherman Oaks.
• 1959 First senior class graduates.First yearbook called Lucerne published.
• 1959-60 Riverside Drive campus opens and incorporates elementary grades from the Woodman Avenue campus.
• 1960-61 Woodman Avenue campus is remodeled and modernized with first air-conditioned classrooms.
• 1964-65 Stansbury property acquired from the Glenaire Country Club for proposed consolidation of campuses.
• 1965-66 Lower Division classes begin on Stansbury Avenue campus in Sherman Oaks.
• 1966-67 Yearbook renamed Images.
• 1973 Complete student body consolidated on Stansbury Avenus campus.

Also, I seem to recall Yves Thepot was the headmaster before Baumhoff. Big power struggle between him and Buckley. He lost, and spent a year teaching Latin and manning the book room before leaving. (that's from my brother - just before my time)

Old Campuses Speaking of the history above makes me curious about the old campuses. I attended Buckley at the Hayvenhurst and Woodman campuses, and went to functions at Doheney. Are any of these old campuses still in existence? I know the Woodman campus is gone, but I don't remember addresses for the others, so cannot check. --Dan (talk) 21:59, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Doheny Campus I attended Buckley K-6, including K-3 at the old Doheny campus. It was located a block or two south of Sunset Blvd, and the main building was beige stucco with a Spanish tile roof, and there was a playground in front. Regrettably, the campus is long gone. Mrs. Tobocco was the principal of Doheny, and I remember how nice she was. I then attended 4-6 at Stansbury. It was just grades 4-6 at the time, well before the consolidation. I visited Buckley in the 1990s, and no structures from the pre-consolidation campus remained. There were a good number of students with celebrity parents during my 7 years at Buckley, but they seemed no different than the rest, just doing their best to make sure that their children received a good education. Normally I'm the first person to go after copyright violations, but in this case I'm not seeing it. Most of the article looks like a pretty good re-wording of the page you've linked to. Well, there's this:

Wikipedia article: "During the early years, campuses were located in Beverly Hills, Tarzana, Encino, and on Woodman Avenue and Riverside Drive in Sherman Oaks. Buckley School website: "During the early years, campuses were located in L.A., Tarzana, Encino, and on Woodman Avenue and Riverside Avenue in Sherman Oaks. In 1964, Dr. Buckley purchased land that had been owned by the Glenaire Country Club and by 1973 was able to accommodate all divisions of the school on the new Stansbury Avenue campus in Sherman Oaks."[2]

Michael Jackson's kids

A number of anonymous editors over the last few days have been adding Michael Jackson's children to the list of notable alumni of Buckley. I've been pretty consistently removing them, however, as I don't believe they aren't actually notable in and of themselves, but because they're related to a dead celebrity. In other words, they don't merit their own articles in Wikipedia (and indeed, their respective articles redirect back to Michael Jackson), and therefore aren't really notable enough to include in a list of notable alumni (which currently is limited to people with their own articles anyway). I find it strange that Christian Brando would be listed as notable alumni. He was actually notable in and of himself. His claim to fame was being the son of Marlon Brando; and a convicted felon. Let's remove him too. Kinerethblue

My usual rule of thumb is to see if the person has his or her own article (which Christian does). I'd say he's probably noteworthy. Esrever ^(klaT) 05:30, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

I think Prince and Paris Jacson should be included in the list of notable people. I know that you said you wanted to keep the list down to people who have their own articles but I think in this case an exception should be made. They're not just related to some dead celebrity. Prince and Paris are the children of Michael Jackson, who was one of the greatest entertainers of all time!

I think the reason why Prince and Paris don't have their own Wikipedia articles at the moment is due to the fact that they're still young. Prince is 14 and Paris is only 13. They've both said in interviews that they want to get into show business. Prince has mentioned a desire to produce and direct films in the future and Paris wants to be an actress so maybe as they get older and they do things with their careers they will have their own Wikipedia pages.

This is just my opinion but Prince and Paris are more deserving to be included than the Kardashians. While the Kardashian kids may have their own Wikipedia pages what do they really contribute to society? They're just famous for being rich! Prince, Paris and also little Blanket are carrying on their father's legacy of giving to charity and going out and helping disadvantaged kids. But you've not in any way indicated that his kids are actually notable in and of themselves. Their only claim to fame is that they are related to Michael Jackson, who justifiably has his own article.
