Whilst it isn't a reliable source, his page on IMDB says he died in 1978. A James Bryden Murdoch died 1 May 1978 according to the UK, Burial and Cremation Index, 1576-2014 and was cremated on 5 May 1978 in Edinburgh, so this might be him - https://www.deceasedonline.com/servlet/GSDOSearch?DetsView=Summary&src=ext&fileid=2362633.#

- I've confirmed that he died in 1978 and I'm sure the above record is for him but I can't find anything to prove it at the moment. Another article from 8 May 1978 says he died "last week" - https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0000540/19780508/133/0007.
