Bruce has a foreign bank account, is that really encyclopedic? edit

[1] this revert by an editor appears to be wp:coatrack. Bruce did not commit a crime and his private financial records and not noteworthy. i suggest the editor self revert. Darkstar1st (talk) 21:45, 6 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

I concur. After my removal of the clearly unencyclopedic content was reverted I at least tried to make the statement reflect the source. Other than being fodder for Quinn campaign commercials, I fail to see the import of GTCR maintaining some offshore accounts in order to engage in overseas transactions more efficiently for their clients. I would remove the sentence. Ronnotel (talk) 12:14, 7 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Maybe you should accuse the Chicago Sun-Times of coatracking—their editorial staff evidently thought that the story was noteworthy. And the excessive level of credulity shown here by editors is fascinating. Why do you suppose that Rauner has accounts in the Caymans? He is avoiding taxes. — goethean 14:49, 7 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
I didn't see any evidence of tax avoidance, please show us where you saw that. Also, it's election silly season so we should be extra careful about violating WP:BLP. Just because someone writes an article that candidate Joe Blow didn't comment on exactly when he stopped beating his wife doesn't mean there needs to be a section on domestic abuse in the article. This article was long on insinuation but short on any actual facts of wrong-doing. In fact, it looks like the only ones benefiting from this strategy were the pension fund investors. Ronnotel (talk) 15:47, 7 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Okay, maybe he keeps his money in the Caymans because he likes the beaches. Silly season indeed. — goethean 17:49, 7 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Again, I see no evidence that a) Rauner is making decisions to keep his money in off-shore accounts, or b) that he benefited from a reduced tax rate because of this. Either provide evidence or acknowledge the article says nothing of the sort. Or are you merely trying to insinuate guilt in absence of fact? Ronnotel (talk) 18:00, 7 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
"It is impossible to independently verify Rauner’s assertion, however, because the Republican has refused to publicly release key tax documents."[2]goethean 20:03, 7 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
...
"Even so, the New York Times reported in 2012 that Romney, who publicly released two years worth of complete tax returns during his presidential run, may have used offshore investments to avoid some special taxes in a different way. The newspaper said it involved debt financing that could have been levied against Romney’s normally tax exempt Individual Retirement Account.
"It is impossible to conduct such an analysis involving Rauner, who has released three years of basic tax filings but declined to make public supporting schedules and forms that provide significant detail about his financial picture. — goethean 20:06, 7 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thus the claim currently in the article "The use of off-shore accounts had no impact on Rauner's tax liability.", is probably false. — goethean 20:17, 7 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
true or not, how is a private legal financial account relevant to a blp? Darkstar1st (talk) 21:13, 7 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Gee, I don't know. Maybe ask the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun Times, Crain's Chicago Business, NBC News, etc etc etc etc [3]goethean 21:55, 7 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Tea party affiliation edit

Bruce has attended, addressed multiple tea party events and been endorsed by at least one TP group. would anyone object to the addition of the tea party to this article? i suggest we avoid stating he is a member, as the movement does not have membership, rather i wish to add material about his association with the movement. Darkstar1st (talk) 10:38, 13 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

What about adding Michelle Bachman's dry cleaners to the list? She talks to them several times a week. SPECIFICO talk 15:59, 13 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
An allegation has been leveled that this request is an attempt to leverage an ArbComm enforcement action and bring this page under editing restrictions. I suggest we table this request. I don't particularly see any particular evidence that Rauner identifies with the Tea Party label. Ronnotel (talk) 17:23, 13 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Reverting declaration of victory, which, though likely correct, is premature edit

Reorganized page while preserving content edit

Rauner is about to Illinois' governor, but his previous page was difficult to read. Reorganized it to improve readability but preserved the sourced content. I also removed unsourced information, such as the claim in the infobox that Rauner had three wives. No other source than wikipedia that I can find claims that Rauner was ever married to a "Patricia Romero" and no mention appears in any biographies of Rauner.

Merge Diana Rauner into Bruce Rauner's article edit

As per notability not being inherited, Diana Rauner, wife of Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner, does not appear sufficiently notable in her own right, and her article could be merged into this article. Any ideas? Quis separabit? 03:41, 7 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Besides her husband, she might be notable for her work at Ounce of Prevention Fund. Even if that was the case, the article "Ounce of Prevention Fund" would merit creation. FallingGravity 05:27, 7 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

I am against merging. I've seen too many articles on statewide first ladies to delete her article.mpen320User talk 12:25, 25 December 2016 (CST)

I oppose merging in this case because Diana Rauner does appear to have her own prominent career in addition to her duties as First Lady of Illinois.--TommyBoy (talk) 08:15, 31 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Since this discussion has been going on for quite a while and there appears to be consensus against merging, I'm removing the tag from the articles. Nohomersryan (talk) 19:21, 13 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Infobox image nominated for deletion edit

I have nominated File:GovRauner.jpg for deletion as a copyright violation. Should we replace it with a new infobox image immediately, or wait after the image gets deleted?
