open ended edit
After reading the archived discussion, I thought others might like to hear from the writer/director himself: in one of the DVD extras called "Farmhouse" (video footage of filming the rural scene, with audio of what sounds like a telephone interview), Jim Jarmusch specifically says he didnt want an obvious ending: "I don't want people to feel despair or tragic at the end. I also don't want them to feel it's just a light romantic thing and 'Okay, let's go get a pizza.'
