Erakor
editI removed the Wikilinks to "Erakor" as the Wikipedia article links to the uninhabited island here. I assume Brian was born in the village of Erakor, south of Port Vila, but I can't find confirmation. Jean-de-Nivelle (talk) 19:41, 25 March 2022 (UTC)
- I suspect you are right, but agree we should de-link without confirmation. GiantSnowman 18:19, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
Once again I removed references to "Erakor Island". One source identifies Kaltak's birthplace as Erakor Island, but most refer to his hometown as Erakor village, a small village on the mainland. The island seems to house a holiday resort. Jean-de-Nivelle (talk) 10:38, 29 July 2023 (UTC)
Appearances at Beograd
editHe’s made 5. I dunno why this was removed what I made the edit but here’s proof

Ni-Vanuatu
editPerhaps this is a wider issue, but (as per the entry for "Ni-Vanuatu" itself), the accepted/correct term for someone from Vanuatu is "Ni-Vanuatu". While this term comes from French originally, it is the term which is also used in English. Style guides recommend it. And "Vanuatuan" is not generally used in either English or by Ni-Vanuatu people when describing themselves officially or otherwise. I've tried to make the edit twice and been rebuffed both times. Is there some other issue I am unaware of, or another place where this issue can be raised so that Vanuatu related articles can have this addressed? 125.209.148.217 (talk) 09:24, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
- Apologies, as the etymology is not apparently from French (I guess that's just a happy co-incidence). 125.209.148.217 (talk) 09:28, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
- Interestingly, Brian himself uses the word "Vanuatuans" here. Jean-de-Nivelle (talk) 10:36, 1 August 2023 (UTC)

Ni-Vanuatu - WP:OVERLINK?
editThe ethnicity is much less known than the quoted ones. Xx236 (talk) 09:15, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
- the same principle applies. GiantSnowman 09:54, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
- What is that principle? WP:OVERLINK says: "the following are usually not linked: ... Everyday words understood by most readers in context ... The names of subjects with which most readers will be at least somewhat familiar. This generally includes major examples of ... countries ... nationalities, ethnicities or descent ..."
- "Ni-Vanuatu" is not an everyday term (although its meaning can be inferred) and Vanuatu (pop. 300,000) is not a major country by any stretch of the imagination. Surely the relevant principle is that "in general, links should be created for: ... relevant connections to the subject of another article that will help readers understand the article more fully".
