Head not Main?

The main branch in Cvs is "HEAD" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.22.231.20 (talk • contribs)
This article should explain the difference between branches and tags. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.136.77.63 (talk) 21:58, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
Propose merge
editI propose Repository clone be merged to Branching (revision control). See Talk:Fork (software development)#Propose merge for a similar proposal. 50.53.15.59 (talk) 10:56, 30 May 2014 (UTC)
Meaning of "versions integration"
editIn the "Motivations for branching" section, what is meant by "versions integration"? The confusion arises because the two words link to different articles, and because a Google search of "versions integration" yields no clear result. Thanks for clarification. 2620:102:4009:8D19:D:94:B82A:CBE (talk) 08:18, 27 May 2017 (UTC)
Proposed merge of Trunk (software) into Branching (version control)
editcircular definitions: "trunk refers to the unnamed branch" and "a branch without a parent is referred to as the trunk". fgnievinski (talk) 20:49, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
Support This page and Version Control can, with a couple of edits, cover everything on the Trunk (software) page. Gusfriend (talk) 06:21, 24 January 2022 (UTC)
- Merger complete. I've done this rather simply, and removed the reference (which was from a blog, hence not a reliable source). Feel free to refine on the page. Klbrain (talk) 11:11, 3 April 2022 (UTC)
Pretty far off the mark
edit"Branching is the duplication of an object under version control (such as a source code file or a directory tree). Each object can thereafter be modified separately and in parallel so that the objects become different. In this context the objects are called branches. The users of the version control system can branch any branch."
Object? They're files. And not just source code files. Files! Modified separately and in parallel. Huh? Object become different. Huh? The files (objects) are not the branch. The branch transcends files. Branch any branch. huh?
Why is this about 'branching' (verb)? Why not branch (noun)?
I need to think about this for a while... Stevebroshar (talk) 21:28, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
