Talk:Boubou (clothing)

Latest comment: 6 years ago by Jamie Tubers in topic Reason for name change

Title edit

Please change the name of this article to Grand boubou. In French a boubou is a man's or woman's robe. This article is about the big robe. A boubou (clothing) is a woman's robe/dress also called a kaftan or a man's robe, also called a Senegalese kaftan. This article has an erroneous title.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Trueblue74 (talkcontribs) 13:50, 26 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sources edit

This article does not properly cite its sources. It also appears to infer that similarity of clothing means that one originated from the other. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Akinsope (talkcontribs) 07:33, 14 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Reason for name change edit

I moved the page from Boubou (clothing) to Agbada, per the Natural disambiguation guideline. The disambiguation on Boubou is not necessary since there are other popular name that can be given to the article. Moreover, Boubou doesn't seem to satisfy WP:COMMONNAME. Through google search, I was able to gather the following stats for Boubou clothing: 450,000 Web results, 1,000 News results, 2,000 book results.

I chose Agbada title because it seems to be the only alternative name that is used by more than one ethnic group, and spanning several West African countries. Furthermore, it seems to be a more popular term. Through google search, I was able to gather the following stats for Agbada: 560,000 web results, 2,000 News results, 16,000 book results. Just incase anyone has an issue with the name change, let's discuss.--Jamie Tubers (talk) 09:21, 15 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
