Comment edit

This article reads like an excerpt from the organization's web site. It is filled with loaded language, trivial details which are not appropriate to an encyclopedia article, a lack of cititations. It is also in need of wikification and clarification. Contributions should be encyclopediac, NPOV, linked, cited, and well researched. They should not included details that are most appropriate to the organization's official website. 96.233.0.23 (talk) 09:59, 15 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

I absolutely agree. Go right ahead and fix it.Singingdaisies (talk) 17:31, 15 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Some ideas of things that might be appropriate, which talk about company history:

* List of original works commissioned by the company
* List of notable people who have been associated with the company in the past.
* List of past tours of the company —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.232.119.37 (talk) 15:13, 5 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Cleanup and references needed edit

As of 2015, the article still needed major rework. I have done a quick copyedit cleanup, and noted several sections completely lacking in references. Claims using words like "top", "best", "first", and "largest", while possibly justifiable, must be backed up by solid references to WP:RS. There still remains a promotional tone that is not appropriate for a Wikipedia article. There is little doubt that the subject is WP:NOTABLE, but the WP:TONE needs to be made more encyclopedic. See Wikipedia:Writing better articles for more specific suggestions.

Also, the article has lengthy detailed personnel lists which may not be appropriate for a Wikipedia article (WP:NOTDIRECTORY), especially since the details are constantly subject to change, and not of interest to the typical reader. Anything that can be expected to become dated quickly should be flagged using the Template:As of, so that future editors can efficiently locate and update the information. Is Pre-Professional Program at Boston Ballet School same as Boston Ballet II? edit

Article mentions Pre-Professional Program at Boston Ballet School, saying, "The pre-professional program at the Boston Ballet is the stepping stone to the professional company. Accepting only about 80 students a year, this program is highly exclusive and competitive. Students move from all over the US and Internationally to participate in this program and to train directly under the head of the Boston Ballet School, as well as the professional company members." Is this pre-professional program the same as Boston Ballet II? Has one been re-named to the other? If Boston Ballet II is different, I'd like to add info on Boston Ballet II to article. History Combined edit

I made a significant shift here, combining the history of the Boston Ballet School with the overall history of the Boston Ballet. It seems to improve the flow and helps the reader see the progression from small school to professional dance company. I kept the little section about the school, mainly focusing on current operations. But I removed the one-line section about the Friends of Boston Ballet, as it seemed more promotional and didn't seem to really fit there. If someone feels that it fits elsewhere, feel free to work that back in. Editsbyjeff (talk) 00:18, 3 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
