Name origins

edit

I can't find any info on the origin of the name Zemplén. It seems to be Slovakian but I found no Slovakian Wikipedians in the category Wikipedians by country. Alensha 16:16, 26 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Zemplén really comes from Slovak Zemplín and it does not mean anything in particular. It is a historical and ethnographical region below the Zempléni mountains in Hungary and Slánské mountains in Slovakia. Note that until 1918 Slovakia belonged under the Hungarian empire so the region on two sides of the border was not divided.

Comitatus

edit

I also don't know the correct plural of "comitatus" (comitatuses? comitati?) Alensha 18:53, 26 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Number of municipalities

edit

As of up to-date, are there 355 or 359 "localities" or "settlements" in this county? Johnluisocasio (talk) 14:19, 9 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
