The List edit

The Price is Right has a bonus Round?
- Of course. 6 people play pricing games and win something (potentially)... then they all spin the wheel for a chance to win in the bonus round (Showcase showdown). Unlike many bonus rounds, it's a competitive bonus round. TheHYPO 05:54, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
Definition Clarification:
The definition of the term is probably debatable, but I always defined a television game show "bonus round" as a round that was played for *bonus* cash or prizes. This implies that some sort of money or prize was awarded to the contestant(s) in the "main game". Some game shows, such as GSN'S "Lingo" do NOT award prizes or cash in the main game, yet refer to the only round where you are able to win money/prizes as a "bonus round" (and by using my definition, I disagree with that label.) Technically then, the Pyramids do not really have a bonus round (I am not considering 7-11, Mystery 7, etc.), nor does Press Your Luck. I would like to see what others feel about this definition. - I definately see what you're saying. I wouldn't mind some talk about how bonus rounds are typically played for bonus prizes, but some are played for the entire prize the contestant(s) win. I still think it's a "bonus" round, because the main gameplay of lingo is the head-to-head round, while the winner gets the "bonus round". Bonus could be seen as referring to bonus prize or money, but could also apply to the bonus of extra gameplay/an extra round. It's "debatable", as you say, but I still would think most people who watched Lingo would see that and consider it typical of a "bonus round" format, even if not truely for bonus prize. I can see Pyramid being a greater debate, since the "bonus round" itself determines the winner of each episode, though the round is still called the "winner's circle", implying that that winner gets the bonus of playing that round. I honestly don't think it's a distinction that needs to be made in terms of deleting shows that have that style, but I think a mention of it is quite fair is you want to add that. If so, Lingo should go on that list, now that you mention it. The article is really more about "endgames" as opposed to main games, but I think "bonus round" is more colloquial and better known as a term... TheHYPO 07:26, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply. The article update looks good. I agree that the term (in the public's eyes, not necessarily in a game show fan's eyes) would apply to any end game, regardless of the payment structure or scoring. Sapphirecrazed 09:13, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
List deletion edit
I don't think it is an appropriate edit to delete the entire list of Bonus Rounds without even a discussion first. I'm not sure I see the logic behind the deletion. Wikipedia is full of this kind of categorized list and I don't see what makes this one unnotable. I don't feel that it is an "endless" list. There are only a certain number of game shows meaning only a certain number that would be on that list. There are certainly longer lists (the Line of succession to the British throne list is far longer and is almost literally endless. It only ends at 1600 entries on wikipedia because that is the arbitrary point chosen to stop counting for that list.) TheHYPO (talk) 14:23, 24 September 2009 (UTC)
