"convicted felon"

The status of Alan Bond is clearly stated in "It was founded in 1987 by Australian businessman Alan Bond, who later served time in jail for fraud,...". It is repetition to say "It is the only university to be named after a convicted felon" and a direct assault on the present day reputation of the university. --WikiCats 12:56, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

what does it mean by 'the only university'? the only uni in the world? in Australia? or?

Comment Australia does not have "felonies" or "misdemeanours", we have "crimes". Even if he was convicted (yes, he was, we get it), the statement is incorrect. SM247^{My Talk} 22:03, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

No University in Australia has been founded by a convicted felon. As the above users have made clear, he was not a convicted 'felon' at the time or before the university was established, and as SM247 points out, we don't have felons in Australia, just criminals. The cultural significance of Bond University should not be affected by the founder being convicted of Fraud post-establishment. It has no bearing on the University, as they were not complicit and it would be far more neutral to simply link to the wikipedia page on the founder and mention his convictions there, not on a page which is clearly nothing to do with Alan Bond. This is a Wiki Page for Bond university - not an advertisement. There seems to be a determined effort to deny references Alan Bond's criminality and the fact that Bond university was founded on the proceeds of his crimes. Alan Bond's criminal activities commenced from at least as early as 1983. He used the proceeds of his crimes to fund self aggrandising projects like Bond university in 1987, the purchase of iconic businesses (Channel 9), and iconic artworks (van Gogh`s Irises etc.). Where on earth do you think all that loose change came from ? The money Bond defrauded from the WA Govt and syphoned out of Bell resources went into Bond Corporation who financed Bond University from the proceeds of the very same crimes Bond committed. "Bond University is named after convicted criminal Alan Bond" is a statement of an absolute fact and its omission would be a serious affront and offence to the People of Western Australia from whom he fleeced millions if not billions. • I removed a new section called "Notable guests" that mentioned this Branson visit. This is the equivalent of a trivia section, which is usually not considered encyclopedic. If other universities were to include a section on guests who speak at campus, they would include thousands of names - notable people speak at Harvard, Georgetown, Oxford, etc. every week. I listed the Branson articles here for future use if there is a reason to include them, such as the Bond Investment Group beginning to regularly attract such guests and warranting inclusion in the article. Notability

Anyone added to the list of notable faculty or alumni should meet two criteria:

1. A reliable source that shows they are associated with Bond.
2. They are an individual who is notable enough for their own Wikipedia article.

I have cut these lists to those people who currently satisfy these conditions. A red link on someone like Terry Gygar or Ky Hurst can still be included, as both would be notable enough for a Wikipedia biography and also have sources to indicate that they went to Bond. totally agreed, I've encountered this problem on many university, suburb and school WP articles...it's easy to prove that someone famous exists but whether they attended or lived in a certain place is harder. funniest was when someone said to me they found the famous person in the white pages therefore they lived in that suburb! Criticisms

I have removed these sections from the article in this edit. Wikipedia has a neutrality policy and also requires verifiable sources for all factual claims and quotes. Having looked at the articles provided by the editor for the paragraphs below, the content has been paraphrased to a degree that is not supported by the sources themselves. Particularly, the first paragraph relies on one individual's submission to a public inquiry, which anyone may present views to, and Judge Dowsett's views are referred to but not cited.

The question of Bond's use of the title 'University' has been raised. Bond has successfully defended against student claims and procedural fairness on the basis that it is a 'trading company'. The finding of Dowsett J in the Supreme Court of Queensland is that the administration does not oversee a university: Bond is a trading company using the prestige title 'University' under the fiat of the Queensland Parliament. The Dowsett judgement places in doubt the value of a 'degree' from Bond.

In November 2008, an external consulting company hired by Bond concluded that the Bond University Medical Program is at 'tipping point' and action must be taken on a range of issues, some of which include: unsustainable staff workloads; poor decision-making; and negative medical student feedback. The Program has lost 15 employees in the past 18 months including two Deputy Deans. Currently, there are several lawsuits filed against the Bond Medical Program from former faculty members and current students.

This article seems like a nice publicity piece for the university, and could do with a bit of work to tone it down. Maybe Bond Uni is really a very nice place with only positive stuff to write about, but I doubt it. — This, that and the other (talk) 06:06, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

AFL vs Football

The Drover's Wife, the AFL is a sports league that plays the sport Australian rules football. The VFL does not play AFL, it plays Australian rules football.
