Someone tagged the article with a notability template; a template that offers up a completely BROKEN Google newspaper search.

edit

An editor has tagged the Bonanza Air Lines article with a notability template. I strongly disagree with that action, but one problem that isn't helping is that while the notability template tries to be helpful by generating links that supposedly help you find sources, in actuality the template's newspaper search is completely BROKEN.

Here is how the template does a Google newspaper search for the exact string "Bonanza Air Lines"...

The result from Google is No results found for "Bonanza Air Lines" site:news.google.com/newspapers.

Now, try this Google newspaper search for the exact same string...

The result is a page filled with 100 newspaper articles, the maximum it can show at once. There are an additional 100 more hits on the second results page. Simply put, the notability template is using a broken search method. If people patrolling for notability are relying on the template's newspaper search link to determine if they need to tag the article, I can state without qualification they're being terribly misinformed by the bogus template search results.

Another issue: the template search used only "Air Lines" as part of the search string, but it did not attempt to also find "Airlines". Both terms are valid when dealing with mass-media searches for airline names, because people (including newspaper editors/writers/reporters) pretty much don't care if the official airline name uses "Air Lines" or "Airlines"; it's all the same to almost everyone, right?

Clicking on the working Google newspaper searches below, using both terms, will result in just under 400 hits...

Bonanza Air Lines/Airlines getting mentioned in about 400 newspaper articles goes a long way towards establishing notability; yet if you click on the template to do a newspaper search, you get nothing.

I don't know where to go to try to get the template's newspaper search fixed, but I'll try looking soon. If anyone wants to join me in adding newspaper sources to the article, your help is welcome. I wish I didn't have to even bother with this because it's not like the article has horrible citations, but I guess someone decided they're just not good enough. Wait a minute... As I was writing this, I happened to look at the editor's recent history, and it's a bit troubling; the editor has had an indefinite ban in article space since 25 July 2021. Maybe I should remove the notability template, or do I cater to what a banned editor thinks?Itsfullofstars (talk) 09:32, 28 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Update: I reported the bug here and 16 minutes later it was fixed. Now that's service! – Itsfullofstars (talk) 03:24, 29 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Removed notability tag per WP:DETAG due to coverage in 396 newspaper articles (see above) that de facto establish notability. – Itsfullofstars (talk) 09:13, 1 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
