Talk:Bogart, Georgia

Although Jennings Mill Country Club has a Bogart address it isn't even close to actually being in the town of Bogart. Georgia doesn't have townships, so much (most?) territory in many areas is simply "unincorporated this-or-that county." Even some very urbanized sections of Athens (for some bizarre reason) have Bogart mailing addresses, which I know from experience can cause untold confusion. The Athens side of "Bogart" isn't Bogart at all. It just has a Bogart mailing address because mail destined for those areas gets processed through the 30622 post office in Bogart instead of any post offices in Athens-Clarke. I'm changing the article to put Bogart squarely in Oconee County because that's as far as the town jurisdiction goes. It's a pain to have to explain to others that I live in Athens, GA when my mailing address says otherwise. Lothar76 (talk) 22:46, 9 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Why were my previous edits reverted? Please don't do it again without taking it here to the talk page. Lothar76 (talk) 04:49, 23 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Nyttend, knock off the reverts already! I live here, you don't. Stop telling me and everyone else in Athens-Clarke with a Bogart zip code that we live in Bogart. We aren't subject to Bogart's ordinances, we don't elect Bogart officials, and we're not within Bogart's limits. We just have Bogart's zip code - that's it. How many times do I have to explain this? Our source says that it includes a small portion of Clarke County. To quote one of our core policies — "What counts [in Wikipedia] is whether readers can verify that material added to Wikipedia has already been published by a reliable source, not whether editors think it is true." The data provided for the Census Bureau are for the municipal limits of Bogart, not for the ZIP Code Tabulation Area for its ZIP code. The ZCTA had a population of 7,685 at the 2000 census, while the town itself only had a population of 1,049. Nyttend (talk) 06:11, 14 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
Where am I supposed to find documentation that says that everyone who has a Bogart address on the Athens-Clarke County side doesn't actually live in Bogart? It doesn't exist! No one in any official capacity ever bothered to document this - it's just understood by those of us who live here. The Census Bureau messed up, and from what I can tell, I can't just create a website or a blog entry that explains this and use it as a source.
Please leave this entry alone. It's the only way that I can explain to the world what's going on because no one is going to read a blog by some guy who lives here when the issue comes up. I am a proud Athenian, and I am tired of explaining to everyone who comes across my address that I don't actually live in Bogart. I will keep the entry as it should be for years if necessary. Okay, fine, Bogart extends into Clarke, but MY house isn't in the boundaries of Bogart even though I have to live with a Bogart mailing address. You can clutch my last edit out of my cold, dead hands. Lothar76 (talk) 16:23, 14 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
Vandalism?! Really? Keep at it, Nyttend. I will keep putting in the part about Bogart's zip code for as long as I live here, which I plan on being for years. Once again, cold...dead...hands. Lothar76 (talk) 20:03, 15 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
