main page edit

Why this particular picture of Farrell? Why not something more...representative and biographical?

{{editsemiprotected}} edit

Hi I would like to know if the Bobby Farrell page can be updated with his new single 'Bamboo Song' released August 2009

Hi. We can only make edits if we have suitable reliable sources. In this case, I was only able to find this page in Czech, which only says that the solo album will come out 'in the summer'. Therefore, I cannot make this change right now. If you can provide an appropriate source, please reinstate your request. Thanks,  Chzz  ►  15:58, 3 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Establishing notability edit

The current article doesn't establish notability of the subject. A Google news archive search equally fails to do so. If the subject meets any of the criteria, please explain how here before removing the tag again. Bongomatic 17:08, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Boney M were one of the leading groups of their time, surely all its members are notable. You also appear to be abusing the minor flag by adding it to edits like this. PatGallacher (talk) 17:18, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
Per WP:MUSIC, for a musician to be notable by being in groups, he must be a member of at least two independently notable ensembles. Bongomatic 17:20, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
In addition, per its documentation, the {{recent death}} template is inapplicable for this article at present. Bongomatic 17:22, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

I think the notability guidelines should be intepreted with a degree of common sense. However I have added ITN reporting his death, which suggests notability. Sometimes a group establishes a degree of prominence such that all its members are inherently notable, even if they never did anything else. Would the members of e.g. Abba or The Rolling Stones have to have performed with another group? PatGallacher (talk) 17:32, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

You can tell that the members of the Rolling Stones and Abba are independently notable because they are extensively covered in reliable sources. The way you can tell that a group is so significant that its members are notable is by the notability of its members, not the other way around. Bongomatic 19:27, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Bongomatic, are you seriously doubting the notability of Farrell? See Google book search results. "The Boney M group is led by Bobby Farrell with Maizie Williams, Liz Mitchell and Marcia..." One of the books says. Salih (talk) 17:35, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

And what does this mean? Salih (talk) 17:42, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
Seems that notability is demonstrated. Bongomatic 19:27, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
I unprotected the article on a trial basis. The BLP concerns from 2008 no longer have any bearing and the article could benefit from improvement based on current news articles and obituaries. If it becomes a vandalism target (semi-)protection should be reinstated. ~ trialsanderrors (talk) 09:21, 31 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Date of Death Incorrect edit

The Telegraph (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/music-news/8232749/Boney-M-frontman-Bobby-Farrell-died-on-same-day-as-Rasputin.html) reports that his date of death was the 29th, not the 30th. (He was found dead in the morning, but apparently is thought to have died the night before.) They also note the coincidence that Grigori Rasputin, the subject of one of his biggest hits, also died on December 29. The BBC/America news broadcast on 12/30 at 7 PM EST also indicated Wednesday as the date of death, although it said there were breathing problems indicated before and after the show, although some reports only mention problems after the show. 71.254.253.7 (talk) 00:56, 31 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

And Rasputin also died in St. Petersburg, and they were both perceived as sex idols, Rasputin in real life, Farrell via his show persona (I don't know about him in his personal life). __meco (talk) 01:13, 31 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

To complicate matters further, Rasputin died on the night of 29/30 December, but there may also be an element of doubt about which side of midnight he died, given conflicting accounts of his death, and he may have been still alive when thrown into the water. However this date of Rasputin's death is by the Julian Calendar, by the Gregorian calendar I think he died on the night of 9/10 January. PatGallacher (talk) 12:11, 31 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

I think the main cause of heat failure In December S.Pb. is cold clothes, cold shoes, and cold bed. Nothing spiritistic.

If you not have minimum wool contact full day you must decrease activities. S.Pb. – this is special hard region look like cosmos. It is need special equipment. Imho. Zgrad (talk) 21:36, 28 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Singer edit

Although Bobby Farrell did not provide vocals for Boney M.'s records, he did sing live on some occasions and then formed his own group, 'Bobby Farrell's Boney M.'. He did sing in professional settings and was paid for it, thus meeting the requirements for being listed as a singer. Israell (talk) 07:45, 24 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
