Suggested Updates to Blue Toad Murder Files page edit

Hi,

My name's Martijn and I'm the Product Lead for Murder Files (which is the 'remastered version' of Blue Toad Murder Files). I work at Relentless Software and have been looking at this page and was hoping I could suggest some changes if possible? I'm aware of how there is a conflict of interest if I would make the changes myself so I was hoping that I could make some suggestions for others to discuss and implement?

I hope this is a good approach, let me know if not :).

  1. In April this year we released Murder Files. We took the original PlayStation 3 / PC version of Blue Toad Murder Files and rebuilt it for mobile. We rebuilt all the 3D models, animated everything again, changed the UI, did a huge overhaul on all the puzzles etc. Would Murder Files warrant a separate page? Or would you include that on the same page as Blue Toad Murder Files? Murder Files also had a completely different team behind it. I'm in favour of a separate page, but I'm aware that that's not up to me.
  2. I'm quite amazed at how much detail there is for the old Blue Toad Murder Files game on this page, but it caught my eye that it mentions for all the recurring characters whether they die during the main story line, and in some cases which crimes they committed. These are huge spoilers, is it fair to get information like that removed?
  3. For some reason there are detailed breakdowns of Episodes 1 - 4 in the game, but information about Episode 5 and 6 are completely missing. Would it be good to at least mention the existence of these two episodes?
  4. There is a note at the bottom talking about a sequel. The artwork that we posted was actually a hint about our iOS release. Is it possible to get this corrected?

Hope the above is all clear, but please let me know if not!

Many thanks, Martijn

Hello Martijn, I'll address your questions in the same order.
  1. Same page. Unless there is distinct coverage of the reception of the remake and coverage of the development of the remake, it doesn't get its own article. The actual guideline on it is here Wikipedia:VG/GL#Dealing_with_remakes.
  2. Wikipedia doesn't do spoiler warnings, see Wikipedia:Spoiler. But the episode descriptions do look too close to being game guide material, so something may be possible. Will check with other editors.
  3. Yep, those episodes need adding.
  4. Yes, no problem in explaining the correct meaning of the tweet.
I'll mention it on the Video Games Project (WT:VG) and see if we can get a couple of extra eyes on it. - X201 (talk) 14:08, 1 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
Honestly, Wikipedia can be strange and mistakes are best corrected by addressing them with an official release from the development group. I'd love to have interviews and development commentary on the concept and design of the game. In all fairness, this article is pretty incomplete and it would take some major effort to rewrite it. I'll see what I can do in two-three days because I've been overworked and really busy, but I'd wish for more primary source documents about the game to fill out the encyclopedic understanding of the material. Reception and such should be easy enough to fix. It could likely meet GA with a few hours of work. ChrisGualtieri (talk) 14:35, 1 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
Martijn, have you done any interviews with any magazines regrading the development? - X201 (talk) 15:05, 1 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi, thanks for all the activity here. We haven't done any interviews but I'm more then willing to give development information about the game. I understand that you need to have sources for any information about the game and that it is probably a bit weird / complex if I post the information here. Does it help if I would post development information on my own social media pages? Are there things you would like to see? (MartijnRelentless (talk) 08:40, 2 October 2013 (UTC))Reply

Social media is not ideal, and likely could be challenged and may be quick to be deleted or 404ed. The best option would be a page on the official website or barring that a Youtube interview of sorts. Though Youtube is particularly hated as a reliable source here, anything official from a recognized and official channel is likely to stay. Basically, the order would be in best to worse sourcing: Interviews in secondary sources (gaming magazines and such), primary sources (official website page), and than social media postings. Wikipedia cannot be a place for "original research" and must have a secondary source to verify all content. With that being said, marketing wise, gaming mags love to do features on upcoming releases which are win-win for both parties. My sphere of research is not gaming, so I can't be a secondary source since I am not a recognized expert because my work is not published through a major independent group - so that rules out myself and most other people on Wiki doing a little interview. It may sound like a pain in the butt to have things done this way, but it is for good reason and given how we can use developer webpages, might be the easiest option for putting up the information - just remember if its a personal website, it has to be sorta verifiable and not some "geocities"-type webpage. Ideally, it would be off the official website. Sorry to ramble on. ChrisGualtieri (talk) 11:23, 2 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
