Transfusions to Humans

edit

Can Monkey and Ape blood be given to Humans in a transfusion? Can anyone speak to that? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.203.58.1 (talk) 15:01, 10 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

The likelyhood of blood samples matching is very low due to bigger differences in genetic code between human-ape organisms than human-human organisms (blood is also a kind of tissue with cells and its' own DNA, and it can get rejected despite the fact that both groups match, or are even identical). It is not entirely impossible, but unless absolutely necessary, this shouldn't be done at all, since human blood should be available in every hospital. 79.185.83.215 (talk) 16:36, 24 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Potential advertising

edit

There was a series of anonymous edits done on 8 July 2008 by IP 91.171.3.102 that looked like potential advertising, and in any case, may well be out of date by now. I'm undoing those edits for the moment until someone with more knowledge on this subject can review it. Carolina wren (talk) 22:59, 7 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Bacteria blood type

edit

According to the first sentence in the article ("Animals and bacteria have cell surface antigens referred to as a blood type") bacteria cell surface antigens are referred to as a blood type. If I understand this correct, bacteria do have a blood type. Can this be true? Any information/source to that? ColdCase (talk) 02:21, 31 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Correlation of ABO Blood Types in Primates with Human Origins (What About ABO Rodents?)

edit

This seems an absurd assertion as anything other than a theory (rather than stated a fact as in the article), when one considers that among species of rodents are also found ABO blood type groupings.

Are people who push these half-blind assertions as facts then descended from rats?.. Let's assume it was an honest mistake, however obviously needs to be corrected.

..It's similar to the argument that because primates have 5 digits, humans therefore descend. Well, so do koalas have 5 digits, so are they the ancestors of some humans? Maybe koalas are the ancestors of Muppets! New Wikipedia fact material! I think not.

Anything can pass as a theory, but an unproven and rather illogical theory can certainly not pass a fact, regardless of reference links. Just please restate it as a theory, then it can be linked to all the amazing claims from such highly regarded, albeit highly slanted not-fully-scientific research.

By the way, with all due respect to peoples' intelligence, please don't take these comments or my light jesting as bitter sarcasm. :)

As you can see, i personally haven't made any changes to the article myself, just discussing what i feel to be a very important change, because the article is otherwise very misleading and manipulates its evidence without presenting all the facts. - i.e., Most people wouldn't buy it if they realized there's other species than humans and primates with ABO blood type groupings.

Much love — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.65.114.189 (talk) 22:16, 25 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Horse Blood Factor Combinations

edit

There is a "dubious" tag on the claim that all factors can be combined in all combinations. The reference given for the horse blood types ("Equine Hematology, Cytology, and Clinical Chemistry") seems to indicate on page 42 that not all combinations are available. The table given has a list of alleles, in which not every combination is listed. I am not a veterenary hematologist, but it seems this would indicate that only those factor combinations listed are possible. Thoughts? 2601:600:4:7EFE:E152:B64C:D154:2F49 (talk) 05:54, 30 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
