Herb Woodley, the mailman?

Herb Woodley is Dagwood's neighbor; in the comic strip he is not the same character as the anonymous mailman Mr. Beasley (even though they look similar, with balding hair, long nose and a mustache.) Is this just someone's faulty memory, or did they consolidate the two characters in the TV show? (I can't remember much about this version, myself.) This dubious assertion is repeated in Bryan O'Byrne's article, where a citation is given, but that's only to his obituary, which confirmed he was on the show without mentioning anything about the character. We really need to get a detail like this straight before we put it in the wikipedia.

There are only three possibilities: 1) O'Byrne played the poor mailman, who keeps getting clobbered by Dagwood running out the door; 2) O'Byrne played Woodley; or 3) the characters were combined. I personally believe the first is most likely (and fits my vague memory), given the mild-mannered personality of O'Byrne's character roles, which doesn't at all match that of the comic strip Woodley, who competes with Dagwood and borrows his tools without returning them. Picture for infobox

Here is a case where Wikimedia's strict policies hamper; this really needs an illustration, but it may be nearly impossible to get one. I have something I think might do: the series was released coincidentally with the release of paperback series of old Blondie strip reprints, and the first one has a publicity photo on the back cover showing the major cast members (Bumstead family plus Backus). Would this be considered fair use if I uploaded a low-resolution scan? JustinTime55 (talk) 16:59, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

The picture of Jim and Henny Backus is really inappropriate as the infobox illustration of this series, as they weren't in the main character roles. (A paradox of the definition of "starring": despite the fact that actors in supporting roles may be more famous "stars" than the ones in the main roles.) Please check WP:IMAGES#Choosing images; they should be appropriate to illustrate the topics for which they are chosen, not just because they're the only ones easily available. Though Henny Backus was a "Broadway showgirl", she remains more notable as Jim Backus' wife than for her own acting career.

As I said above, I have access to a copyrighted picture, which should qualify as fair-use because it's a low-res publicity picture. The Backus picture was put there once, and I moved it to the article text. That's where it belongs. JustinTime55 (talk) 16:08, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
