Alternative Rock Band?
editNow, where did you get that from? did you even listen to Blind Melon? they were the hippiest in the 90's. I know some say they did grunge, but I definately disagree. They don't say so too, and they clame that their roots lay in Classic/Hard Rock. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.139.127.109 (talk) 21:51, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Official site
editblindmelon.com is still up. Which one is the real official site? -- LGagnon 14:19, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
There is no official site. There is a record label site for their last album but thats it. BlindMelon.com is just a popular fan site. --62.215.3.60 05:55, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:BestOf TonesOfHome.jpg
editImage:BestOf TonesOfHome.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 01:43, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Glen Graham

Inaccurate to label as 'grunge band'
editIt is simply not musically accurate to label Blind Melon as a grunge band. While they are difficult to categorize, they are clearly worlds away from the grunge of Nirvana, early Pearl Jam, Bush, and Alice In Chains.
I vote for the unfalsifiable 'rock band'. 'Alternative rock band', while not completely accurate, would be better.
PendulumSwings (talk) 03:09, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
- If people would actually post the references to the text both here and on Shannon Hoon's page, they'd find a lot of answers to questions here. Blind Melon may have entered the commercial music scene during the Grunge period, but it did NOT make them grunge anymore than Dire Straits from that same period of time was grunge. BMelon might be categorized like the Grateful Dead or Allman Brothers Band as a "world-class jam band". Listen to "No Rain" and you'll hear a Grateful Dead (actually, Jerry Garcia sound: [1]. I'd say certainly, they were folk-rock, rock, alternative-rock, and they borrowed from a variety of genres for a unique sound. PS-- External Links and long lines of "facts" are not a parking lot! --leahtwosaints (talk) 23:56, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
If stuff like Pearl Jam is considered grunge then so is Blind Melon
Listen to some of their less popular songs like "Galaxie", "Lemonade", "Wilt", or "Swallowed" as I think you'll find some grunge influence in their music. If they are judged by only a handful of songs like "No Rain" I can see why one would say they are not alternative or grunge, but alternative rock band (something along the lines of Collective Soul or Candlebox ) is extremely fitting for Blind Melon. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.96.0.220 (talk) 22:40, 18 December 2017 (UTC)
External links to live recordings
editAnyone have an issue with me adding a link to Jam Radio - offers free downloads and streaming audio of some blind melon live shows... legal and sanctioned. It is a site I am somewhat affiliated with, so I have to ask first, but it is listed for other bands such as Phil Lesh and Friends, Donna Jean and the Tricksters and The Grapes. Incorrect Date of Birth of Richard Shannon Hoon
editIn the article, former member Shannon Hoon is said to have lived from (1989-1995), which would mean that he only lived to be 6 years old. On Hoon's page, his DOB is listed as 1967, so I edited the Blind Melon page to fix the error, but it was changed back to the original, incorrect date. Final revision would be appreciated. --71.129.59.54 (talk) 06:23, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
- The dates in the members' section show the time frame in which the member was in the band, not their birth/death dates. ×××BrightBlackHeaven(talk)××× 09:04, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
References to Blind Lemon Jefferson should be referenced or removed
editStatements such as "most likely" and "almost certainly" are not appropriate for encyclopedic content as they are mere conjecture. The author should support the statements with appropriate citations or evidence of fact or remove the statements. It may sound likely and 'feel' like a natural conclusion; but it also may be completely wrong. Even if it is correct, it does not belong in the article without supporting evidence. Either that, or rewrite it more honestly: "The band's name may derive from the blues artist Blind Lemon Jefferson, however there is no real evidence supporting this notion."64.162.229.144 (talk) 22:13, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
- I changed the almost certainly line to say "The possibility that the father took the reference [...] still exists." While not much of an improvement, admittedly, it is an improvement. Edit: Oh dear, I just saw the "most likely" part. Changed to "possible". If (more like when) someone has a better way of fixing it, I'd much appreciate it. lavacano201014 (yell at me here) 17:36, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
- I reworded this sentence, splitting it into two, stating both as independent facts without stating in words that they are connected. I also found an interview with Shannon Hoon while working on his page where the interviewer states point-blank in a question the name came from Smith's dad, and Hoon doesn't correct him but rather said they picked the name because they saw themselves as a group of stoners. I know it's just shy of a direct confirmation, but it seems to be the best we got UnnamedTransGirl (talk) 14:30, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
Dead external links to Allmusic website – January 2011
editSince Allmusic have changed the syntax of their URLs, 1 link(s) used in the article do not work anymore and can't be migrated automatically. Please use the search option on http://www.allmusic.com to find the new location of the linked Allmusic article(s) and fix the link(s) accordingly, prefereably by using the {{Allmusic}} template. If a new location cannot be found, the link(s) should be removed. This applies to the following external links:
Hoon's death isn't mentioned
editreally? that is just sloppy. gmipTalk 07:19, 21 March 2012 (UTC)
- His death is mentioned in fourth paragraph of the Rise to Fame section. I won't say that the article isn't a sloppy mess, but give it a closer read. CCS81 (talk) 14:59, 21 March 2012 (UTC)
