Sources needed for Beak doctor costume article

A vigorous discussion is currently under way at Talk:Beak doctor costume about the historical use of the phrase 'beak doctor', and whether said costume was worn before the seventeenth century. I've not been able to find any reliable sources which show that the costume was worn before 1619, and therefore thought I'd ask here if anyone knew of any. Black Death in Trebizond

Actually, the plague is attested as having struck Trebizond in September 1345, according to Michael Panaretos, & lingered there for 7 months. I'd update the article with a citation, but I have no source at hand for when it struck Constantinople & Caffa; if one updates the date for Trebizond, those should be updated too. (Did it strike those cities before Trebizond? After?) The next outbreak he recorded was in 1362 & lasted thru the Spring Summer. -- llywrch (talk) 17:28, 10 February 2014 (UTC)

Correction: I re-read the passage in Panaretos, & the year should be 1346. (The Greek year at this time began on 1 September of the previous year.) The passage is somewhat confusing, as can be seen from the following translation (from Fallmerayer's German translation of Panaretos):

In November 6854 (1345), the megas doux Scholaris, the megas domestikos Meizomates, and others of their faction were imprisoned. It was then that kyr John Komnenos was sent to the City. In 6855 (1345/6), Saint Andreas [probably on Cape Jason] and Oinaion [Unye] were taken.

In September, indiction I, there was a sudden plague, the prostrator of all, which carried off many, children, husbands, wives, brothers, sisters, mothers, and kinsmen. It lasted until the seventh month [March].

In January 6856 (1347), Kerasunt was taken and burned by the Genoese. On 29 June of that same year, indiction I, many Turks came to Trebizond led by Aches Aynapees [Ahi Ayna Beg] from Erzinjan, Mahmates Eikeptaris from Paipert [Bayburt], Touralipek [Turali beg] from the Amitiotai, together with Posdoganes [Boz Dogan] and the Tziapnides [Cepni] and they fought for three days before they fled empty-handed having been injured, abandoning many Turks in the road.

Possible typo
