I believe it is different enough to stay separate, but also might be improved. As well as I can tell, it now mostly applies to synchronous serial communication, slightly different from the more common asynchronous serial, with IBM's Bisync being a specific case. But also, many digital modulation methods are bit (or symbol) synchronous, such as the Bell 212 modem. Phase changes are synchronized to the source carrier, and the receiver phase-locks to the transmitter. It would be interesting to expand to include this, and also better describe bisync. This is significantly different than synchronous as commonly used in describing digital logic. Gah4 (talk) 06:20, 27 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
