The following is addressed to Norman Day (talk · contribs), the editor I assume is responsible for most of the recent flurry of edits:

I've restored some language and facts which were removed without discussion or refutation, namely the camouflage of the chrysalides, the cannibalism among larvae, and the importance of collector's demand on population numbers. The first two facts are corroborated by the references already provided, and the last point of contention is not such a clear-cut issue. I reworked the sentence to make it clear that both factors (collection and deforestation) are at work, with no particular emphasis on either. I don't think you can claim that demand from collectors is not at all an issue, considering the local economies involved, and the fact that one specimen (of a certain species) alone can fetch over USD $100. That's a year's salary in some parts of this world.

As for the original taxonomy, I had adopted the scheme used here, both because it seems to be current, and because it's rather convenient. I won't immediately object to the promotion of other genera, but if you're going to include them, please at least update the taxobox accordingly. You also neglected to unabbreviate several genera (i.e., "T."), which was necessary after introducing Trogonoptera (I've fixed this, but the taxobox is still out of order).

Aside from that, it should be noted that at Wikipedia we don't use bylines and that if you want to point a user to a certain website, do so under the "References" or "External links" section. If you must put the link in the body of the text, make it unobtrusive by surrounding it with square brackets, as I've done here. That said, I thank you for your contributions and corrections. -- Hadal 04:47, 18 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

This article contradicts the articles Ornithoptera meridionalis and Ornithoptera richmondia, both of which say richmondia is the smallest species of Ornithoptera.--Syd Henderson (talk) 01:41, 10 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yes I've noticed that, Syd Henderson. (I think you meant to say that both articles say that meridionalis is the smallest and this article says richmondia is the smallest). So which is correct, this article, or Ornithoptera meridionalis and Ornithoptera richmondia? One needs to be changed. Ypna (talk) 12:17, 29 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

What about the genera? edit

All 3 genera considered birdwings redirect to this article. Shouldn't there be an article for birdwings and then also articles for the genera? Why don't they have their own articles? It could be done so that the information about the genera on this article get divided into their own articles, keeping this article more brief. JamesDouchTalk 04:43, 19 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
