Status as US Army officer?
editI've changed the category to US Army personnel, from officer. Congressional Bio does not mention status. Indeed, he got his degree in 1951, about 3 years after he left the Army. This suggests two things: 1. He received GI Bill benefits IOT go to school. 2. Officers are/were usually college grads.--S. Rich (talk) 23:46, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
- I do believe you are correct. I searched for records of his military career, and see that he was a PFC in occupied Germany and a military policeman in 1948 as a 19 year old, and that was the last year he was in the military(1946-1948). Though the story I found this in was pretty interesting and was reported in several media outlets. He father was, however, a high ranking officer(Lt. Colonel) in 1948. I suppose, if he was recognised by the army for this feat, he could have rose to a Corporal and made a NCO. Dave Dial (talk) 00:27, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
Well, change the article and say he served as an MP. That's impressive enough. Then the category can go from "personnel" to the more specific "soldier". Thanks for the quick catch!--S. Rich (talk) 00:30, 17 September 2010 (UTC)
1964 plane crash and disagreements with Ted Kennedy
editI don't understand why Kennedy falling out with Bayh in 1980 over Carter has been tacked onto the section about the 1964 plane crash. Yes Kennedy and Bayh were both in the plane, but that's hardly a connection. Isn't there a better place to discuss their falling out? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.146.28.49 (talk) 18:46, 16 December 2013 (UTC)
Shrum's book, the source for this anecdote, says that Kennedy giving Bayh "a pass" was entirely connected to Bayh saving his life in the crash sixteen years before, also writing about the pain Kennedy still endured because of his injury.JRBoh (talk) 22:46, 19 December 2016 (UTC)JRBoh
