Admission of COI edit

Hello everyone. First I’d like to declare a possible conflict of interest; I’m a visitor at an organization called HarvestPlus which does work in the area of biofortification (it is an NGO, it focuses on biofortification of crops with micronutrients such as vitamin A in the developing world). I’m working in an intern-type capacity for a couple of weeks, mainly doing stuff like data entry. I have no specialization in biofortification (I am not a scientist or science student), but I do have access while I’m here to various resources and references that have been useful for writing the article.

Having said that, I thought it’d be acceptable for me to start this article for the following reasons:

- because I tried hard to make it NPOV. - because it’s not advocacy or advertisement for HarvestPlus. - because it is a notable subject (as demonstrated by the pre-existing, detailed article for Golden Rice, a specific and famous instance of biofortification, and the quite significant scientific literature on the subject), and worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia.

I’d like to request attention to be brought to the article to check for NPOV (I don’t know if there is standard procedure for doing so), and having created the article I think it’s appropriate if I take a step back and let the community continue to make any substantive edits.

Apologies for going on for so long, but I don’t know exactly how harsh Wikipedians are on perceived conflicts of interest, or whether my position would be considered one for this page. As a result I wanted to give a thorough account of myself. I’m sorry if I haven’t abided by any Wikipedia conventions in creating this article, but there are a lot of guidelines to read/miss. Thanks. Potential Edits edit

Add to the Methodology > Genetic Modification section or within the Problems section a broader scope of genetic modification and its use to address micronutrient deficiency. This will include the framing of the necessity for such a crop like Golden Rice in the first place and questioning whether or not this method actually has the potential to address hidden hunger as it proposes. The main source I will be using to add this content is: Kimura, A. (2013). Hidden Hunger: Gender and the Politics of Smarter Foods (39-80, 139-161). ITHACA; LONDON: Cornell University Press. Retrieved from http://www.jstor.org/stable/10.7591/j.ctt1xx5n3

Additionally in the problems section, I would like to address the issues with imposing Western and expert technologies onto local communities and their legitimate practices and solutions. Additionally, I would like to add a broader discussion about the claims of biofortified crops being cost effective. Some references I will use include:

Adding this information may require restructuring of the article as a hole or just adding to and editing existing paragraphs. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Raeganloheide (talkcontribs) 19:46, 9 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
