Pollution

Previous heading "Pollution" was divided into two specific types of headings: air and noise pollution. New content and citations have been added to noise pollution. Previous content under "Pollution" was rewritten to improve sentences structure and correct spelling and grammatical errors.--LisaTruong3 (talk) 05:07, 11 March 2021 (UTC)

Invasive species and over exploitation

Previous heading (Invasive species and over exploitation) was divided into two separate headings as they were separate topics, resulting in "Invasive species" and "Overexploitation" section to form. So far, new content and citations have been added to the "Invasive species" section. Future editing will contribute to "Overexploitation" section.--LisaTruong3 (talk) 05:07, 11 March 2021 (UTC)

Addition of new subheadings

"Marine species richness loss" was added under "Types of loss" section. Furthermore, "Overexploitation" was divided into two sub-headings titled "Fossil fuel" and "Overfishing". New content and citations were added to new subheadings.--LisaTruong3 (talk) 17:11, 11 March 2021 (UTC)

Climate change

Hello @MrModal, LisaTruong3, Optimisticecologist, and Dayminn:,

Good to see you have chosen this very important topic. I wonder if the first paragraph of the air pollution section should be deleted as there is already a climate change section. What do you think?

Chidgk1 (talk) 08:38, 27 March 2021 (UTC)

Hello @Chidgk1:, I am undecisive regarding your suggestion. Although I am aware that there is a climate change section in this article, no mentioned of the information described in the first paragraph under the air pollution section was seen in the climate change section. Originally, when I rewrote the pollution section (to what it is now), information about sources (e.g., burning of fossil fuels) and effects of greenhouse gases (e.g., increase in Earth's atmosphere due to the trapping of radiation) were previously mentioned. Because I did not want to completely remove the previous editor contribution (to not seem disrespectful or insensitive), I added further content and citations to support the previous statements. I will agree that the first paragraph might be better suited under the climate change section. However, I cannot give you a define answer regarding your question. Perhaps @MrModal, Optimisticecologist, and Dayminn: could provide you of a better answer than I have. Thank you for reaching out and communicating!--LisaTruong3 (talk) 00:26, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

I've removed the "further reading" list as it could become endlessly long and also become out of date quite quickly. Any important publications should rather be used as in-line citations (multiple times if needed):

Added info on causes to the lead

I have just reworked the lead a bit: I added content about the causes. This was copied from biodiversity (see talk page there where I ponder over using an excerpt or not). Further work on the lead is still required. Is the amount of space devoted to causes now too much? I don't think so. The lead is now 495 words long; my rule of thumb for lead length is 550. But some condensing might be possible. EMsmile (talk) 08:37, 18 April 2023 (UTC)

I provided justification for my edit here on the talk page of Biodiversity. I think this resolved the undue weight issues discussed there.--C.J. Griffin (talk) 13:31, 18 April 2023 (UTC)

Excessive detail added in March 21

I am just going through some of the content added by a student in March 21 (see here). It's very impressive as far as work by a novice editor goes. It looks good at first sight! However, I feel that the student has in some sections digressed too much and therefore bloated the article unnecessarily. E.g. I have just moved some of that content to invasive species as it gives details on the problems and costs with invasive species rather than focusing on the core topic at hand: how invasive species leads to biodiversity loss. I think more culling & moving is needed also in the section on air pollution (talks too much about air pollution in general) and also noise pollution. EMsmile (talk) 14:06, 7 March 2023 (UTC)

I have done some culling in the "noise pollution" section now (moved it to noise pollution). Some culling and condensing for the air pollution section is still needed in my opinion. EMsmile (talk) 10:57, 9 May 2023 (UTC)

We need a better image for the lead

I think we need a better image for the lead. None of the few images in this article are suitable. How about we set up a 2 x 2 image collage for the lead like at climate change adaptation or climate change mitigation? It could include an image showing loss/death of wildlife, then also 2 images that show some of the causes (e.g. habitat destruction, pollution), and perhaps one that is more hopeful, showing a solutions aspect.
