Reference Issue
editThe only reference about SERIS on this page goes to a blog post about rising energy prices. In the comments one poster mentions all the information that is referenced. 138.40.111.58 (talk) 19:09, 11 November 2013 (UTC)
More up-to-date/accurate statistics
editI don't have time to do much with it, but this recent report commissioned by Energy-UK looks like it has more up to date information than this article : http://www.energy-uk.org.uk/publication/finish/5-research-and-reports/1061-cornwall-energy-competition-in-british-household-energy-supply-markets-report-march-2014.html Chrislintott (talk) 16:43, 30 August 2014 (UTC)
Moving to "UK Energy Providers"
editI think this page should become more generalised, rather than focusing on the Big Six it should be about energy providers with the Big Six as a subsection AnwvXLd (talk) 21:33, 7 February 2020 (UTC)
- I was thinking the same. 'Big Six energy suppliers' would be a redirect to the subsection. Article title should be more specific though – if the scope is "energy" we have to include oil, coal, LPG etc, in the same way as the Energy in the United Kingdom article. --Wire723 (talk) 18:26, 8 February 2020 (UTC)
New sources
editGreen Network Energy collapse on 27/01/2021 with 360,000 customers. Avro Energy collapsed on 22/09/2022 with 580,000 and Green Energy collapsed on 22/09/2022. https://www.which.co.uk/reviews/energy-companies/article/energy-company-reviews/green-network-energy-aIrMl6Q5eqZj - Which? https://www.which.co.uk/reviews/energy-companies/article/energy-companies/avro-energy-aVhdY1j9ZF1d - Which? https://www.which.co.uk/reviews/energy-companies/article/energy-company-reviews/green-network-energy-aIrMl6Q5eqZj - Which? 79.76.244.247 (talk) 19:09, 22 September 2021 (UTC)
- All those companies were added to the article. Wire723 (talk) 17:44, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
Defunct competitor companies
editThis is meant to be an article about the Bix Six companies- do we really need a complete list of every UK energy that's gone bust? It doesn't seem directly relevant, especially when most of these were caused by 2021 United Kingdom natural gas supplier crisis- it would be a lot more relevant content there rather than here, in my opinion. Joseph2302 (talk) 16:12, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
- I tend to agree, although I've been adding to those lists. Best solution is to move this article to something like "UK retail electricity suppliers" as (briefly) discussed in Feb 2020. Wire723 (talk) 17:42, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
Requested move 21 October 2021
edit- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: no consensus. There simply hasn't been enough participation, even after two relists, to determine consensus at this time. (closed by non-admin page mover) SkyWarrior 01:36, 24 November 2021 (UTC)
Big Six energy suppliers → ? – The scope of this article is more than the Big Six companies, as we're including alternative companies to the Big Six, as well every defunct company since 2018. Therefore the article name should be changed to a more general title e.g. United Kingdom retail electricity suppliers (or something similar). - Comment this will probably need to be renamed at some point, based on the article "Big Six" is a term from the 2010s that no longer properly applies. On the other hand, how would an article topic shift be different from the existing Electricity sector in the United Kingdom? Perhaps the articles should be merged? - Note: WikiProject United Kingdom has been notified of this discussion. VR talk 03:19, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
- Perhaps something like United Kingdom Post-nationalisation energy suppliers or similar as it already covers mope than just the original six. MilborneOne (talk) 09:42, 6 November 2021 (UTC)
Historic "big six" or the current top six?
editChanges were made today to the companies list which take the article in a wrong direction. Previously we described (using past tense) the six that dominated the market after it was deregulated in 1998/9, and the consolidation to a Big Five in 2019. Today's good faith changes updated the table to the current six biggest by adding Octopus, one of the newer competitors. Since the topic is the Big Six and not "the current top six" I feel we should keep the historical picture of the industry as it was in the 2000s and 2010s. Wire723 (talk) 18:23, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
- No comments, so I put the intro back into past tense. Added dates & sources. --Wire723 (talk) 17:56, 1 November 2021 (UTC)
