Jazz Importance edit

Hi EddieHugh, thanks for your opinion (see in view history 22:07, 23 July 2014)! In my (and many others') opinion George Benson and the Count Basie Orchestra (even without CB himself) are genuinely Top importance for the jazz project (they're actually in the 'High' category on wiki - Count Basie himself is in 'Top'), being a top jazz guitarist (even if he's playing in other genres too) and "one of the most prominent jazz performing groups" (wiki CBO). This is an album (good or bad) where one can hear these two jazz giants playing together, mainly in a big band swing style, some jazz standards and other songs (incl. originals). The album reached nr. 3. on US Top Contemporary Jazz Albums, which is some influence even if temporary. If you say this album is not Top importance because this is not an important album in either of these two artists' disco, or because it's not as influential as Love Supreme or Kind of Blue (which would reduce Jazz Top Album articles to 5-10), then 'High' is fine I guess. But saying it's 'Low' because you can't see the impact of a collaboration of two Top (High) Jazz performers, or because maybe you don't like one or either of them, or maybe something else you didn't think is worth mentioning? Let me know your thoughts. Thanks, Alfikacska (talk) 00:31, 1 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

I could continue the discussion, but ultimately it's down to personal opinion (or consensus on Wikipedia, which is mass personal opinion). In the past, someone implemented an objective system for labeling jazz albums Top – the core collection of The Penguin Guide to Jazz (where Big Boss Band gets 2 stars), but it didn't last. Ultimately, it really doesn't matter, as the Importance tag is used as a guide for people involved in the project, to direct them towards what needs to be done as a priority. I hope that you work towards greatly improving this article as a reflection of it being labeled High/Top. EddieHugh (talk) 08:50, 1 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Yes of course there are many reasons to consider. I actually decided to put it into 'High' because of the rate of the artists. The Penguin Guide to Jazz is also a personal point of view to some extent, and I guess it was sort of predestined not to last, even if it'd have been easy to rate according to that. However 2 out of 4 (as I understand from its wiki page) would put it into 'Mid'.:) I'm trying to improve it, I just didn't have the time since I've made this Stub. You could help me though if you'd be so kind and put the Penguin rating into the Professional ratings section:), or just give me the exact source and I'll do it.
