Attempts to redirect to Biden (disambiguation)

edit

Joe Biden is without a doubt the primary search target, the other three people are his wife and his sons; Bidens is a different term. Therefore, this page should redirect to the primary topic, as is frequently done. Everyme 17:11, 16 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I agree, however accusations are being made against Wikipedia that Wikipedia itself is showing a POV bias against Sarah Palin because Biden redirects to Joe Biden while Palin doesn't redirect to Sarah Palin. It has been hashed over and over on Talk:Palin, and due to a lack of consensus it seems that Palin will not become a redirect. For the term of this U.S. election, the easiest way for Wikipedia to appear equitable is for Biden to redirect to the disambiguation page. I understand and agree with you that in the long term, Biden should point to Joe Biden, but for the greater good, I think it best to redirect to Biden (disambiguation) for a couple months.  X  S  G  06:11, 22 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
It matters not. People will find the article they are looking for, either way. Wasted Time R (talk) 13:13, 22 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
The correct answer to such silly accusations of attacks against Palin and whatnot is to deny the trolls recognition and just do the right thing. I've reverted accordingly. We do not cater to any special interests while this is still ostensibly an encyclopedic project. Everyme 17:03, 23 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
The difference is that there are several notable Palins. It is the same reason Ellison and Kline go to DAB pages. But there are not several independently notable Bidens, so clearly Biden should redirect to Joe Biden.--Appraiser (talk) 17:56, 24 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
Based on a page count tool Sarah Palin has twice the traffic as Joe Biden. Both of these sites are high traffic (Sarah Palin #7, Joe Biden #13 and curiously Barack Obama down at #22, and McCain at #39) so Wikipedia's POV is visible to a large audience. Keep up the good work. Starrymessenger (talk) 00:17, 25 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
Perhaps this concise and precise summary of the situation will help you understand why Palin is and should be a dab and Biden is and should be a redirect. If not, I have to say I for one am out of alternative wordings for something as clearcut as this. Everyme 12:47, 25 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Proposed change to Presidency of Joe Biden

edit

I propose changing this target of this redirect to Presidency of Joe Biden for at least as long as he continues to hold this office. It's pretty easy to get to Joe Biden from there, as he's the first linked term, within the first four words of the lead sentence.

Speaking for myself, Biden as redirect to Presidency of Joe Biden is useful to me; Biden to the DAB page is fine; Biden to Joe Biden is the least useful of these three options.

By now most people in American know who the guy is (one would hope) and those of us outside of America are generally well informed about the existence of other countries and their present leadership. It's Biden's presidency page where there will be far more editorial juice over the next four years, knock on wood.

FWIW, I would certainly have supported Trump redirecting to Presidency of Donald Trump during his finite tenure in that office. Or if Palin makes the grade some day, Palin just as much. However, with Bush you have to make an exception, as this surname aliases a common noun.

Perhaps existing policy is against this. Perhaps existing policy is not very good in this particular case, and could be further refined. — MaxEnt 23:21, 25 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
