Talk:Bibliography of tourism

Criteria edit

A bibliography of tourism sounds useful and interesting, but we need some reliable sources to identify the most important books and articles to include.

For example, we could start with citation analysis, like Pierre Benckendorff, Anita Zehrer, "A Network Analysis of Tourism Research", Annals of Tourism Research 43:121–149 (3/2014) doi:10.1016/j.annals.2013.04.005, which finds that the three most cited works in tourism are:

  • Urry, The tourist gaze, 1990
  • Butler, "Concept of a tourist area cycle of evolution", Canadian Geographer (1980)
  • MacCannell, The tourist, 1976

Among textbooks (other than research methodology), the most cited are:

  • Mill and Morrison, The tourism system (1985)
  • McIntosh, Tourism: Principles, practices, and philosophies (1977)

I recognize that these are mostly older than the works that we're currently including in the article, but what are our criteria for inclusion? --Macrakis (talk) 00:12, 9 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
