Talk:Bibliography of the Dreyfus Affair

Sourcing

edit

asilvering, Thanks for spinning this off from the Dreyfus affair article. A couple of concerns come to mind:

  • While it was part of the bibliographic appendix to an article which is already well sourced, the "Bibliography" or "Sources" sections don't need separate sourcing, they *are* the sources (or potential ones, anyway). Once they are moved to their own article, though, even if it's a list article, it becomes content, so I believe now requires citations, even if just a primary source link to a citation of the book itself, e.g. via {{cite book}}.
  • Many list items are currently organized as external links underlying a title. This was okay when they were listed as references at Dreyfus affair, because external links are acceptable within references, but not now where they appear as list items, as external links are not allowed within the body of an article (except in citations).
  • Titles: there are quite a few books listed as "(in French)" but the titles are given only in English, such as most of the items listed in the § Testimonials section. If that is like the |trans-title= param in a citation, the title translation is nice to have, but the original French title is really what is needed in a bibliographic list article. (Conceivably it could be left the way it is, as long as accompanied by a citation that provided the original title.)

I know you're not responsible for creating the source entries when they were in the § Sources section at Dreyfus affair (it was mostly by Samrong01 (talk · contribs) here and here, and unfortunately they are no longer active), and this refactoring into a new article is definitely an improvement but now that the sources are here, these points should be addressed, sooner or later. I'm pretty busy, but will try to help out a little bit if I can, and maybe you can ask for help at the WikiProjects or elsewhere for help citing them. Mathglot (talk) 20:44, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

I do plan to convert these to more useful citations of the cite book variety - the strange "in French" titles that are not actually in French certainly stood out. I expect (or hope) that's solvable fairly easily by cross-checking against the fr-wiki article. Any assistance is of course welcome. -- asilvering (talk) 01:10, 23 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
