Did you know... that the UNESCO-inscribed Group of Monuments at Mahabalipuram of the Pallava Period include: Ganesha Ratha; the Pancha Rathas of Dharmaraja, Arjuna, Bhima, Draupadi, and Nakula Sahadeva; several cave temples such as Varaha, Krishna, Mahishasuramardini, and Panchapandava; the structural temples of Olakkannesvara and Shore; and the Descent of the Ganges, one of the largest open-air bas-reliefs in the world?

The image plaque which was earlier posted in the article was deleted by Wikicommons for some reason which I was not aware. I have now uploaded a new image of the same plaque with totaly free license. However to doubly confirm the text ( the img may not be fully clear) I have made a verbatim text in the image which is given below for information. I have a very clear version of the older image which has the same text in my files. I gave changed the url also in the article.--Nvvchar. 01:43, 9 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

"These Monolithic temples are known as Rathas as they resemble wooden chariot and it is an innovation of Pallava King Narasimhavarman (Mamalla (AD 630-688). A huge rock sloping from south to north was utilized judiciously to cut out different forms of temples besides few animal sculptures.

Though these monolithic temples are termed as Pancha Pandava Rathas they have nothing to do with Mahabharata. These rathas with their ektala to trithala Vimanas and different in plan and elevation, exhibit splendid forms of South Indian Art and Architecture. The Nakula Sahadeva Ratha has apsidal Vimana. A relief sculpture of Ardhanareeshavara on the wall of Dharmaraja Ratha with perfect balancing of the masculine and feminine features is considered to be one of the finest specimen of Early Pallava Plastic Art. The ratha also contains Pallava Grantha inscription recording the titles of Narasimhavarman I.

The group of Five Rathas were executed as models of South Indian temples and were not consecrated As their stupis are still are attached with the bed rock.
