Rhyme scheme

edit

@Antiquary: I'm curious what the superscripts on rhyme schemes mean. For example: "aa4b2cc4b2". Is that any different from "AABCCB" in the notation used on rhyme scheme? Thanks! -- Beland (talk) 21:58, 17 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Beland. It's all about the number of stresses in the line, the a and c lines having four stresses each, and the b lines two. Some people use superscript for the numbers, some subscript, and some just write them the easy way. --Antiquary (talk) 10:28, 18 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Aha, that makes sense. I added a note to the article so readers can decode the notation. I decided not to use capital letters to avoid confusing with the source legend. Thanks for the clarification! -- Beland (talk) 15:31, 18 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
