Beverly Switzler made her first appearance in Howard the Duck #1 (January 1976). About nine months later, this story was reprinted in Marvel Treasury Edition #12. That treasury also featured a new story wherein Howard and Bev met the Defenders. Now here's the tricky part: Marvel Treasury Edition, like most treasury comics, did not have a cover date. It's simply dated 1976. Because of that the Comic Book Data Base lists it ahead of the other 1976 books which DO HAVE cover dates. Rest assured, that Howard the Duck #1 is indeed the character's first appearance.
