Comedienne
editUser:Ghmyrtle, I recognise your point, but MOS#Gender-neutral language says to "use gender-neutral language where this can be done with clarity and precision." A recent discussion about Kate Carney, who was also from a time when "comedienne" was probably in widespread usage, resulted in consensus that "comedienne" should not be used.[1] Regards, Neljack (talk) 09:17, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
- I understand the discussion, but I'm unhappy about the implications of your interpretation of it for this article. Bessie Bonehill was a person who, in her performances, played with the conventions of the time, by acting as a male while being clearly female. That, if you like, was her schtick, and part of that, in my view, was by clearly allowing herself to be referred to as a "comedienne", not a comedian. By simply removing that word you are, in effect, removing relevant information from the article. Ghmyrtle (talk) 09:29, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
- PS: I've now changed it to "comic entertainer", which I think is, if anything, probably more precise, and more in line with sources like this. Ghmyrtle (talk) 09:38, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
- OK, thanks, that works fine. Neljack (talk) 23:00, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
